I found this link over at The Online Photographer. It's a collection of color photographs of Russia prior to the Revolution taken by Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii. In the article there are links to pages that show how he made the color photographs if you are technically curious. The shots themselves are beautiful and very detailed. IMNSHO worth taking some time over. The whole collection is in the Library of Congress. |

Funny how colour takes away the old yesteryear look that old B&W prints have. Did that make sense? Whenever I look at photos from the 30s or 40s I get the feeling they were taken at a time not of this world. It's like they're all posed, unreal for some reason. Looking at these images doesn't do that to me. I feel like I'm looking at real people in real places. Why is that?

I'm impressed. It was a lot of effort to get those shots, not like today when it's point and click. I am impressed with the overall exposure quality as well.
