Might be a bit early for the bluebonnet season, but you could get lucky.
The Texas Hill Country is best for that.
West of Fort Worth is a place called Fossil Rim. It's a wild life preserve. It has a lot of giraffes, zebras, ostriches, all sorts of deer and african antelope, even a Cheetah sanctuary. It's a goodly drive from Dallas, might be closer to Abilene. Worth the trip if you have the time. Look them up online, they have guided tours, but you can also drive through the park. The animals come right up to the car.
Not that familiar with Abilene, pretty desolate if I recall my last drive through.
Dallas it self is pretty cool. You can visit the site of the JFK assisnation, the grassy knoll, even the book depository. West End used to the be the cool area to go to eat and drink. Not sure if that's the case anymore. |
