BBC article on the Brown victory

Was Brown's victory for Sen Kennedy's seat a referendum on Health Care? Obama? Liberal policies? Or simply a poorly run campaign by Martha? Is there a larger message going into the midterm elections?

Keith Olberman last night called Brown a "homophobic nude model". It didn't come accross as a statement of congratulation.

It was spitting on the grave of Ted Kennedy.

Olberman also thinks it's okay to call people sexually explicit names...

I think just like 2008, people were not happy and are ready for a change.

As for spitting on the grave, the same people that put Kennedy in office and kept him there elected Brown. I don't see how that is spitting on any grave.

Obama's approval rating is dropping and the Democrats haven't been able to pass healthcare reform yet. People want to see some action and the Democrats haven't been able to produce yet. It's inevitable. That's exactly why there was such a huge swing in power away from the Republicans in 2008. Bush was losing approval points and the Republicans were out of touch with what the people wanted. It's sorta like football. If you're players aren't producing points then you sub in new players.

That's the best counter argument I've gotten so far, in all the places I've posted this.

His daughter won the election.

She's a senior star basketball who's been recognized by Sport's Illustrated and in 2005, she was a semi-finalist in American Idol.

She's Massachusetts' sweetheart. Maybe it's a stretch, but I think it made the difference in this case.

This photo didn't seem to hurt him much either.

Massachusetts voted for celebrities.

Spitting on the grave of Ted Kennedy? Yup.

ETA: OK, so I doubt 54% voted for celebrityism, but that race was close enough for it to change the results.

This could be the first time I posted in rant....

Brown won the election because:

a) the people think (and somewhat rightfully so) that the democratic candidate was completely out of touch with her voter base (and some argue) reality i general. She called Kurt Schilling a yankees fan for christ's sake. That is a major component of why Brown won.

b) Also, the [expletive deleted] democrats are babying the public. We are intelligent. If you want to pass healthcare, read the bill and tell us what is going on... Americans will be able to understand it. There is tons of meaningless rhetoric be bandied about with no actual substance behind it. Either political party would have a decent chance of being heard if they spoke in honest terms and didn't treat the voter basw like idiots.
