I finally got around to watching this movie. Wow. What a well woven story, and with relatively modest effects.

Yea I quite liked it myself, was a nice refreshing change from most movies today...

When it first came out I was pretty excited to see it, but I never really got around to it since all my friends went and saw it right away. They all said it wasn't like they were expecting but that it was good, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I finally got to watch it on my gargantuan flight to New Zealand, and I was really happy I did (other than the ass next to me that wouldn't shut up and kept trying to tell me what happens (seriously)).
I wasn't really expecting the social commentary, or the intensity of a lot of the moments. I was more expecting a "crazy weird aliens are here what do we do!?" sort of sci flick, but this was far superior to that.
And I agree that it wasn't over the top with the CGI like I was expecting, which was quite refreshing.

Yea I was quite blown away when I saw it, I went in to it expecting some sort of big production here's the big bad aliens come to destroy the world and everything on it, and got something that was totally unexpected. Almost a real story to it that in a sick sort of way seemed almost believable.

I just got to see it the other day, I borrowed my unlces copy and all he said was it was a different type of movie. To say the least he was right, and I really liked it a lot. There is talk about a sequal but I can't imagine it being even half as good as D9

Just finished watching it and I was totally impressed. It's a shame that a predictable and cliche movie like Dances with Smurfs Avatar gets so much more attention.

Well when people are getting depressed because they're not smurfs it's not hard to imagine why.

I love this movie - great decision by Blomkamp not to have a big reveal of the aliens 45 minutes or so into the story, they were visible from the start so you didnt spend half the film wondering what they looked like.

Makes you wonder what the Halo movie he was working on would of been like if the rug hadnt been pulled from under him during production.. then again, we may not of got this..

Bought the blu-ray a few weeks ago. Expected one type of film & got something completely different and really really good. Although my husband did keep saying "flippin Prons" in his best south african accent (not his exact words but people who have watched it will know what I am on about!)

LOL, I have been heard to mutter that a few times in my best SA accent in the past few weeks.

I found it entertaining, although I didn't really rate it as highly as some. In terms of it being a social commentary, which a lot of people claim to be it's strongest feature, I thought it was kind of obvious and predictacble. Race relations in South Africa? Possibly, but SURELY there's other material they could have used in that regard without simplifying it to "Prawns". I felt if it wanted to make a comment about South Africa's history they could have tackled it head on. Also I didn't really rate the combination of humour and seriousness, maybe I'm being over the top here but if they wanted to make a serious film they could have used believable (human) characters and not overblown stereotypes of "the man" and "ignorant racical attitudes". These things could have been done more subtley and really added imapact.

I enjoyed it in the same way I did Starship Troopers, entertaining Alien film with hints at social commentary that were too glaring and worn out for my tastes.

I really dislike this movie. It really bothers me that the story is made from the alien perspective and this movie makes people have emotions and compassion for some ugly looking creatures. Why should we care about them? No mater how cruel humans are made in it, my vote is for them and their supremacy on Earth.
p.s. I was praying the whole time that District 9 will be blast with a nuclear bomb or something
