The comments are interesting. Its greatest strength is its greatest weakness, it seems. |

It seemed to kill the thread. Thanks for the chuckle.

Good bye. For now. (Funny: just as I am realizing the weaknesses of my entry and the treachery of a memory that had glorified it, the voters pushed it up to a 5 - a naked, thin sort of 5, but 5 nonethless.
The little blood boy was a great success at our house. |

I've had The Little Blood Boy on my computer now for a couple of years, and he's quite a tonic, I tell you.

Triple Whammy!
Best of 2009 - 4.5633 (9 comments, 158 votes)
Personified Smiles & Frowns - 4.2807 (one commenter thought it looked like a smile. Sigh!)
Delicate - 4.000
This ain't doing my sub-5 average any good, folks!
Perhaps we should start a compulsive submitters anonymous (like gamblers anon - the next one has got to be a winner!).

Some more nice comments. And one that basically said it sucks. A couple of guesses. One of those that guessed said if he was wrong then he overscored. So is it ok to base a score on a guess of what/who you think it is? This person scored on what/who he thought the picture was from. Not if he liked it or not. Strange. |

Well, that's a little odd. Especially if the guess was of the "who" variety. But consider this hypothetical scenario:
I live half an hour from Jabberwocky Falls, a dramatic but hard-to access natural feature. I've tried to photograph the falls at least 20 times, and I've never gotten an image that really pleases me. When voting on this challenge, I encountered a flawed-but-striking image of Jabberwocky Falls. It's striking in that the shooter has managed to accomplish what I have never been able to do; get a particular POV that that shows the power of the falls without being marred by the surrounding power lines. It's flawed in that the processing is not very good at all, too much Topaz, halos between the trees and the sky, the whole overdone nine yards.
But I give it a better score than the processing would otherwise allow based on how well he solved a problem that's been bedeviling me for years. If I didn't know how hard it was to shoot Jabberwocky Falls, I wouldn't score the image as high as I did.
To me, this is a reasonable justification. Of course, I have no idea if this has even the slightest relevance to your particular image, but there ya go :-)

Close, but I don't want to say too much until after voting. |
