What do you do for inspiration?
I've been out twice today to shoot stuff, it's a bit cold, cloudy, crappy weather, small amount of dirty slushy snow about, no amazing scenery around me.. I'm a bit down today...
: (
I can't even bring myself to shoot something inside (my house) either, totally lost my motivation. I'm not submitting crap to a challenge only to see it bomb.
So what do you do for inspiration when you're having photographer's block, or whatever it's called? |

Do you have a flatbed scanner? Play around with arranging stuff on it and scanning it in. No camera required. |

You have some really nice Street and architecture shots in your portfolio, don't limit your photography to what's pretty or eye catching, I have found that some of my shots that I love the most are gritty, ugly scenes, though admittedly they don't score well here but that doesn't deter me.
If the weathers miserable, go out and demonstrate it with peoples expressions, the way they walk or hide from the elements. If the sky is grey and overcast, use it to your advantage, shoot something gloomy and / or threatening. Don't necessarily submit it for challenges if you're worried about your score, but don't let it deter your photography! |

Even though I still really want a ribbon, I think I might start shooting more for me than this site. I find chasing a ribbon can be pretty demoralising...
P.S. And thanks for the nice comments Iain.

I know exactly what you mean, a few months after I started submitting here I got obsessed with scoring well and chasing ribbons. I started to dislike my photography and get down about it so I took a couple of months break from submitting and went back to just shooting stuff I liked.
Eventually I settled into a happy medium, most of the stuff I submit is what I like shooting, street stuff mainly, but I will go out on occasion and shoot specifically for a challenge to stretch myself and do something a little different. I NEVER expect to get a good score though and I think that prevents me getting upset about it. |
