Over in the side challenge, Flip & Blend, we have been having loads of fun creating abstracts and digital art.
I've got two images that seem to have 3-D qualities in them. And I have NO idea how I achieved that effect. Anybody got any ideas? I'd like to be able to do this reliably!

The only thing I can see is that the dominant foreground color is a strong blue.

There is a "drop shadow" effect happening on the upper level (moreso on the red and blue image).

This tends to fool your brain into thinking: there's a shadow, so it must be a level above the background...

Make sense?

I guess this experiment is a start on using complimentary colors and dark shadows
to create a 3-D feel.

thanks to coryboehne and hesitant for their suggestions.

Color is fascinating, especially in the light spectrum that still is a mystery to me.

While I'm fairly conversant with the Red/Blue/Yellow (painter's)primaries, the Light spectrum creates different, exciting illusions.
