That's the way I read it too.

Brad (that's my hubby) has suggested that it be my birthday gift (we usually set aside between $50 and $100 for each of our birthdays).

*IF* I take it, we won't be missing bill payments or taking food off the table, it's not THAT far out of our range.

Help me !

Oh - yeah - and I am still shooting a wedding this fall, my first.
(Max - are you willing to hang out in TO for the day 10/10/10 and help me not miss "the shot" ?)

The details :

Title: Wedding & Portrait Photography

Description:
You will become familiar with various aspects, both technical and creative, in the art of photographing people as it applies to wedding and portrait taking. Emphasis will be placed on controlling lighting, posing and the creative process. You will need to bring a 35mm medium format or digital camera with manual controls over shutter speed and aperture. The camera must also have either a 'sync socket' or a 'hot shoe' for an external flash connection. Please, no 'point and shoot' cameras. You must have a basic understanding of how to operate your camera as well as basic knowledge of the principles of photography. You will have an opportunity to work in a studio setting using backdrops and strobe lighting.

Lea, I would be delighted to hang out with you on your friends special day. We can at some point swap phone numbers and talk about the details further. I'm really looking forward to this. I love being the second shooter. We both shoot Nikon so that's a bonus right there. I have reflectors and the like, we'll have fun.

I'll forward you my list of demands so you friend can start to get some of them in place, it could take a while to find a purple elephant so she should start as soon as she can.

All the best to you and yours, PM me your number I have free long distance :)

So, for best of '09, are you guys going with what would score best or what means the most to you? I was just going through and looking at my stuff from last year and have many, many gorgeous animal shots from the zoo and aquarium and even a few gorgeous landscapes. But, I did get a new granddaughter during the year too. LOL!

I've had mine picked out for awhile. Pretty much since I took it, actually. And wouldn't you know - in my planning of everything I completely forgot to put that file on the laptop. It is still on the main computer's hard drive, but that won't get to me for another two months. It is also (hopefully!) on a hard drive I sent to my Mom's house that will hopefully be there when I get there. And I should have enough time to edit and submit! Hopefully!

Both, Kelli.

I'm going to enter the best shot (score-wise) out of the shots that are the best to me (most meaningful).

I have a picture. It will bomb. What's new?

Just playing around today - the kids were unusually co-operative.

All are converted from raw, resized, a slight hit with neat image, USM and saved for web.
Oh - sorry - cloned out a bit of mustard on Bug's chin in hers.

The boys, I used "cloudy", but it's got a weird colour cast to it - should have left it on "as shot" or used "daylight" I think, in the conversion process.

Enjoy the long flight! Take pictures of all the funny looking people on the airplane, and get into lots of trouble with security for doing it! (oh... maybe not...)

Well, Deb served her country for a good many years, she could be taking pics in the interests of Homeland Security :-)

Man what a day this has been. Woke up, got the fire going, checked email, got up, went outside to go bring in more firewood and guess what...something ain't quite right...there's two sections of my CHIMNEY laying on the ground!

So of course I run inside and start trying to find the # of the guy who installed it last year. Can't find it, but find a number through which I may be able to reach him, so I leave a message and cross my fingers.

Then I call Fatass Heating (not their real name) and clearly state that I have an emergency on my hands, I need to get my chimney back up ASAP. Several hours later, no response, so after taking a whole slew of pix I drive into town, barge in through the front doors and make sure I show those pictures to the woman in charge, Mrs Fatass. (Again, names changed to protect the innocent).

First of all she all but chews me out in front of her daughter, Miss Fatass, for having a woodstove. Then they, these paragons of heating virtue whose business claims a 24-hr emergency service, coolly tell me that they couldn't POSSIBLY get an INSTALLATION crew together before January 29th...ummm that's two weeks away...

Then Fatass Jr turns up to give me an estimate. He says I need a)an entirely new chimney where only one 3'ft length was damaged badly enough to warrant replacing, b)that it will take AT LEAST a crew of 3 guys to reassemble the chimney, and c)that it will take 3-4 hours to complete the work. He quotes me a ridiculous amount. Oh yes and of course the work is conditional...weather, ohmygawd the pitch of my roof is soooo steep, whether or not his mummy Mrs Fatass says it's OK....you get the picture.

So I call Ryan and cry on his shoulder (as much as you can do so) over the phone. He finds me the name of another local firm, which I thought had gone out of business whereas in fact they had only moved, without telling anyone. I call Mr Smallfirm, them, and guess what? Mr Smallfirm and his helper are coming out Monday, noon, with a 40ft ladder and they're going to fix my chimney.

Elated, I drove into town and bought a section of chimney to replace the one badly damaged piece. And only an hour ago there was a knock at my front door and there's the guy who installed the chimney last year, come out to see the damage for himself. However, he's working fulltime now, and he clearly feels bad that his work didn't stand up. So, as he's working at a place where scrap lumber is otherwise turned into Alpenite, and he now lives closer than he did before, I can be assured that I won't have to buy another stick of kindling for the rest of the winter.

What a day. So glad it's over! And once the work is done Monday, I'm going to call Fatass Heating and have a few choice words for Mrs Fatass.

You may now resume your regularly scheduled Team Suck programming.

In short, you where concerned about your ability to do a wedding shoot âyour thereâ indicates I think you are.
01/15/2010 06:14:21 PM · #1991
You have to say 'you're there', Alan, because we're pedants.

Sue, glad it worked out in the end - give my love to Fatass heating, may they burn...

LOL with Peter.
Susan, your words will be wasted with the fatass clan, most wise to spread evenly and cost much.

Oh I know my words will ultimately be wasted on the Fatasses. But I also plan to be achingly polite and cordial when I tell them. That's the secret! Cursing and calling all kinds of names never works. Be sweet as maple syrup pie, however, and they won't even realize how badly they've been insulted til much, much later. ;-)

I agree in principle. What say we ask Art Roflmao to send Godzilla in to help with the smiling?

Susan, if I were closer I would have been over in no time to fix your problem. Sorry that you have had the trouble in the first place, only wish I could help.

Glad to see that you should be up and running by Monday and that yo will have great fun dispatching with the fat ass clan.

All the best from here on in.

MAX!

Thanks, Max, I know you would've been over in no time if you were just a bit closer! I still need to get an ice shield jimmied up so it doesn't happen again, but in the meantime will just have to get out the 6 ft ladder and a broom and knock away snow. Ah well. And I am glad the original guy did bother to stop by, he probably would've done a make-good on it had I not already arranged for the non-Fatass to come over Monday and do it.

Hey, seeing that I charged up the battery for my videocam, I may as well video Mr Smallfirm and his one and only helper fixing the chimney. Then once the work is done, run it down and show it to Mrs Fatass. Bet it takes them less than an hour!

Well starting to flake out now, been a long day and my neck's still sore from all the chain-yanking the Fatasses did on it. See y'all tomorrow...*zzzzz*...

I took a few guesses on signature style with Jan (cutout) and Jeb being the only ones I am almost certain. Iâm still debating on 2 people. Robert, I see a image that has all the components that he would look for, yet there is a small issue, not in the style, but a item in the image, I think I will post my guess, I doubt if Iâm wrong the owner will be displeased with the comparison. By the same token I think there could be 3 that Deb would take a photo of, but the one Iâm leaning towards might have a little hint and will also post my guess. Later I will take another look, and see how many others I can get wrong..
