I'm under the impression that I could see any comments to my submissions while the challenge is open fo voting. How?

Reading a few comments from participants it looks like you can monitor the votes too. How?

Thank you all for making these challenges and community 10x more exciting than the ones on dpreview.

If you click on the comments number under the entry's score display, you can read the comments. Alternatively, go to your Profile page and click on the link for "Comments Received."

People who "track" votes are paid members who have an "Update" link so they can update their score (too) frequently; they then plug the vote/score numbers into a separate spreadsheet to calculate the value of the most recent vote given.

Perhaps I'm a bit blunt but where is the "entry's score display"? I can't find it... :(

This does the trick even though the comments are all mixed. Thanks.

I suspected that was an upgraded member only feature. Thanks.

Try this: Go to your profile, find your challenge entry, click the name, click "can be viewed here," copy the number after "IMAGE_ID=" in the URL, then paste it at the end of this URL:

//www.dpchallenge.com/challenge_stats.php?action=comments&IMAGE_ID=

If that doesn't work, then I dunno...

On the home page for all DPC, in the left column, at the top, should be "My Submissions" and under that is a thumbnail of your image, and under the thumbnail is the current stats for that image. For example, my current entry in "Puzzle macro" shows the following:

Puzzle Macro III
Votes: 120
Views: 263
Avg Vote: 5.6417
Comments: 18
Favorites: 0
Wish Lists: 0
Updated: 12/25/09 12:10 pm

If you can't see something like that, then you probably are viewing a cached page from before the stats were up, and you need to refresh your cache. In any case, if the comments line shows any number other than "0", it's a clickable link; click on the number to see your comments. Alternately, just click on the thumbnail itself and you'll see the image full-size and all the comments.

Thank you all for the support.
Those latest two methods suggested by george917 and Bear_Music do work.
Still I miss a more direct access from the submission page.

OHHHH I thought registered users don't have ANYTHING in the left pane, I didn't realize they do have the image with a score but no on-demand updating (just hourly at every :10?). Sorry for the complicatedness.

Hi Duarte,

I think that this happens to you if you're logged out, usually I just leave the settings remembered and the DPC homepage (the main one) has your entry, but it's necessary to be logged in.

@George
The registered users also have the image, only visible when logged in. The score updates every hour (usually at 10 minutes past the hour), but you need to refresh the page in order to see it change.

Got it!
I have to click on the DPCHALLENGE image/logo to get that score board.
Too bad I discovered it, I spent the whole week in suspense looking at those scores instead of taking pictures... It's stupid but I hope it wears of...

No, in fact it gets worse, and then if you upgrade to member you get an "Update" button which updates your score and then it gets even worse again and you get update addiction!

Enjoy!

I saw these comments in Hahn's recent winning ribbon photo:
Vote #182 was a "1" - Vote #253 was a "3"
How does one know that? Or do you just have to update your spreadsheet regularly and happen to be logged on when a vote comes in?

Hi Larry,

There's an Excel spreadsheet made by someone and they've made it available in one forum, sometime ago.

I can't find it at the moment, but probably someone does know where it is and can point to the correct thread.

You just write down you vote count and current score, and update it as frequently as possible. The more frequent, the more statistical information you have. It does the math for you, and you know if vote nr. X is a 3 or a 7.

Sorry I can't be of more help :P

Cheers,
João

Another one I'm missing.

I can see that some people have updated the Photographer's Comments text box on their submission. Can't find a way to do it. Is this a paid membership only feature?

Hi Duarte,

The editing of the photo details is just for members, unfortunately one cannot edit anything after going to the voting phase. It kinda sucks because of some spelling errors, etc.

Ah, found it!!!

On the biography there's a link for the spreadsheet.

And yet you can... it involves some pondering however. I am not sure if site council wants everyone knowing how to do it otherwise I'd share the details. I mean if they wanted everyone to be able to do it there would be some sort of button right?

The only hint I can offer is that you can alter the submission details for shots that aren't in voting using the click of a button. You need to do one more thing for images in voting.

edited to add fun italicized words!

Thanks Craig, I was under the impression it was not possible. I've tried to do it while I was only a registered user and I couldn't do it :-P

Thanks! I'll get back to that once I've submitted!
