Have been having a play with my 7d. Fabulous camera but having the following problem that I hope is not related to the camera.

Took some pics having a play with it. Further information: Was shooting JPeg and using a card reader to transfer the shots.

Here are a couple that I transferred:

Problem at top 1 inch

Slightly out of alignment and green from that area

I had formatted the card so couldn't go back to see if it was the same on the camera.

Took some more shots and transferred in the same manner (please note I have not had this problem when transferring in the same manner images from my 40d).

One shot was out of alignment about halfway down (like the green one above but not showing the green).
I then put the card back into the camera and downloaded directly from the camera and it was fine.

Can you please advise the problem here. Is it:

A problem with the Card Read?
A problem with the CF card?
A problem with the Camera?

Please advise what I should do to check that it's not the camera as this is the most important at this time being a new camera and all.

Thanks to everyone in advance.

After formatting and if you don't take anymore shots you can recover the pictures with software.

They were only play shots so of no concern.
But I am worried about the transfer of the shots being corrupt.

I am mostly worried that it is the 7d but I'm hoping that is not the case.

What kind of card are you using? Can you duplicate the problem with a different card?
How are you tranferring the pictures to your computer? Copy/paste? Letting computer transfer?

While taking more pictures do you see the problem on the screen of the camera?
Are you formatting the card with the 7d?

I'm going to say it's a camera problem. Check to see what firmware you have on it, then check to see if there's an upgrade available. There was a mention of something similar to "overlap" or some such that was a software issue. If you have the most current firmware (and I don't have my little book with me to tell you how to check), then do take the camera back to wherever you got it (if you bought it from a real live store) and have them look at it.

As mentioned above.

With a picture that I didn't post. It was out of alignment half way down when I transferred it using the card reader.

So I placed the CF card back in the camera and transferred it directly from the camera and it was fine, no corruption.

Is the card reader having a problem reading such big files.

I think I'm running the latest firmware 1.1.0

If it was a problem with the camera or the card wouldn't it have been corrupt coming from the camera also?

Ah, yes - if it is transfering OK one way, then it isn't the camera. Probably your card reader. Maybe time for a new one?

I'm hoping it's just the card reader.

Loving the 7d and all the features

If it were the camera, the data would remain the same regardless of method of transfer. So if you don't see it when you view the shot on the back of the camera, or if you transfer directly, then the camera seems to be working fine.
