A few years ago, while at an estate auction, I bought a big box of miscellaneous items which included a bunch of old photographs/prints. The photograph below was among them...

Can anyone shed any light on what/where this might be?

It appears that there might be a large choir behind a small orchestra on the far end. You might not be able to make them out on this example, but there are British flags in the photo as well.

the curved walls and the size of the floor area is about hockey rink size... just a guess

Looks like the old Chicago Blackhawks Arena.

Where was the estate auction? Old photos, especially post cards might be from anywhere, but sometimes photographs like this may not have traveled very far from the area that they were taken. The event looks like it could have been taken from any number of old midwest university field houses.

My guess:
Horse ring, ice rink?
I think the people in the far-ground look like the band or choir, [white robes] Maybe a revival, college graduation?

More photo info:

The estate auction was in Minnesota.

On the back it indicates that the photo was printed by Pringle & Booth, 181 George St., Toronto

In the far end of the photo there are some poles, the British flags are drapped on them. Also, in front of what appears to be the small orchestra, there is a flag drapped over what might be a table (or I even thought it might be a casket), though not a place for a funeral.

I agree it looks like a choir.. Maybe evangelist-type gathering?

No indication as to date?

Looks like an old ice hockey or public fairgrounds arena.

If it is a funeral of a popular person, it may have been the only place to hold that many people....?

Just guessing.
What a neat mystery! Hope you find out and share here.
