About where I thought I'd be - I like it more than the score. |

I could have done without the last few votes. If you're feeling quite miserable this morning, wait till tomorrow to vote!

Would this be the influence of alcohol maybe? (not your statement! I mean the bad scores...)

I'll see how tomorrow goes, but if things don't improve I might even consider a self dq. I think my photo is one of my best so far, but my score is saying otherwise. I know...it's a free study and votes are tougher. Sorry, I don't buy that theory. A photo should always get what it deserves regardless of the type of challenge. If it's worth a 5 it should get a 5...an 8 it should get an 8. It shouldn't be on a curve just because there are a lot of good images and a person feels they have to play with numbers to rank it against the others. That's the biggest flaw with this site. People need to look at each individual photo and learn their own criteria in how to judge. It doesn't matter if there are 10 photos in a challenge or 1000, if a person is consistent in their voting criteria they wouldn't need to worry about any other photos better or worse when they are judging each one. Sorry, went off on a tangent there and of course I'm not addressing just you Sarah. I'm just trying to point out that there are a lot of people on here who vote inconsistently and it's probably not anything in particular with your photo. Hopefully it's just a bad batch of early voters. |
I can't do else than agree with you.
I never saw the difference between a free study and a theme either. But apparently there IS a difference for (some) people. The aim is not to compare photographs with each other, but to rate each photograph with the score it deserves, no matter what theme and without differentiating when it's a photograph in a free study.
Anyway, my score's not one to publish in large either

Finally made it back to 5 on the dot. I didn't think this shot would do so poorly. At least I got a nice comment. : ) |

It's time for a break from challenges again because I'm tired of this crap.

This is my second worst score ever, and for an image that I've already sold twice in the short time since I took it.
I was shocked and felt like I was punched in the gut when I looked at the score for the first time this morning. It makes me wonder (again) if my sense of what looks nice is distorted and so different than what the rest of the world sees except that there is a lot of interest from those who have seen this image as a print. I know there is always a difference between a print and the image in challenge specs on the monitor, but it isn't that different. |

I havent entered in any challenges for a while now and this would be my first open challenge entry. I have forgotton the emotional journey of scores going up and down all the time and trying to make sense of this and how people vote. My nerves cant take it and reading through all the posts I dont think its good for your health to actually track ones own score all the time :) yet it is addictive. At this stage I can only hope my score remains in PB Territory
PS Best to all for 2010. I believe its going to be a great year for all

Well, it's up from where it was last night and that's a relief.
My entry is just about the very best I can do,
but there are loads of others in this Free Study that are splendid,
so if people are voting on a curve, oh dear...
I've finished voting, but will probably go back.
You have rated 335 of 335 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 5.9522.

Don't worry; this image made 131st in November FS and it was among the 20 best selling images at fotolia last week and has been sold all over about 100 times in the six weeks since it was taken. DPC is a different world. |

I knew I would break my string of high scoring freestudies with this one. I feel am in good company today, seeing all the low votes being pulled in by good photographers.

After half a bottle of champagne worth of mimosas, I had to make sure I'm seeing straight. :) |

This is about what I expected from my entry, but I posted it anyway, because it represents a personal goal achieved. Therefore I love it. |

Starting off the year great. I self DQ'd myself because I mentally could not handle the score (4.5 and dropping). It has been a rough two weeks but I am hoping that the New Year will pick up and that I can get back into my creative side again. Lack of motivation. Here is to the New Year. |

I agree that a 4.x score is demotivating, but honestly, you don't stand alone now.
But, how do you DQ yourself??

So you see, you're not even dealing with the lowest score of all.
I even thought about selling all my equipment as I've learned the last few months that I'm nothing more or less than a mediocre photographer.
But I try to keep in mind that I'm here to learn and to improve myself. And that would be difficult without equipment.
