Totally as expected. I didn't think this would have DPC broad appeal. I had shots that would certainly have done better, but sometimes you just enter what you like and damn the torpedoes. I'll take the 3's and 4's and wait patiently for the folks that do appreciate it.

I doubt it's your photo. Most people posting here seem to be getting hit hard on the scores. I'll see how tomorrow goes, but if things don't improve I might even consider a self dq. I think my photo is one of my best so far, but my score is saying otherwise. I know...it's a free study and votes are tougher. Sorry, I don't buy that theory. A photo should always get what it deserves regardless of the type of challenge. If it's worth a 5 it should get a 5...an 8 it should get an 8. It shouldn't be on a curve just because there are a lot of good images and a person feels they have to play with numbers to rank it against the others. That's the biggest flaw with this site. People need to look at each individual photo and learn their own criteria in how to judge. It doesn't matter if there are 10 photos in a challenge or 1000, if a person is consistent in their voting criteria they wouldn't need to worry about any other photos better or worse when they are judging each one. Sorry, went off on a tangent there and of course I'm not addressing just you Sarah. I'm just trying to point out that there are a lot of people on here who vote inconsistently and it's probably not anything in particular with your photo. Hopefully it's just a bad batch of early voters. |

It won't go up if you have an rounded average such as 6.0 and all the next voters give you a score equal to your average. This just tells me that your last 4 voters all gave you a 6.
Edit: I read your post again, and it appears you might already know this, but I wasn't sure. LOL. When I first read it I thought you were saying it seems like the voters were only giving you 1's. It's late...don't mind me. :) BTW, I wish I had you "problem"! LOL.

I'm slowly climbing again from 4.5, I wonder if your right about some shots being hit unfairly, I was thinking mid-high 5's for mine and I personally like it better than some of my mid 6's. Will see how it looks when I wake up.

I will just write off the early troll voters as new years revelers who have had too much to drink, and put their fingers on the wrong row of keys when voting :)

Yeah... no way I getting near that... but I'm nowhere near as good a photographer or processor as the person that inspired my entry.

I agree, It's not about your photo, it's all about the voters. It's just that voters(judges) don't see what you see in your photo. But then in this kind of contests we are at the mercy of the voters/judges. For sure, if you are going to enter your photo in a different contest, result will be different as everyone differ in taste/background/preference.
Personally I think Free Study had be judged differently in a sense that voters had to be tougher, after all we all have 1 month to prepare for this challenge. And we don't have the same limitations as a regular challenge since we can post anything that we're good and comfortable at (e.g.landscapes/portraits/etc...)
Honestly, I am scoring fairly well in this challenge. But I am not defending the early voters since there are so many entries for challenge, the people who kindly voted for my entry may not be the same people who voted at yours, you may have gotten the low scorers today and they might come back tomorrow and haunt mine.
