For all practical purposes, the A40 is no longer available. The only way you could get one would be a used one, a refurbished one, or (very unlikely) a stray one left on some warehouse shelf somewhere.
Right now, the "lowest" level camera in that series that's still generally available is the A60. It's selling right now for about 25% less than the A40 sold for (and the price appears to be starting to drops a bit more), and is overall a better camera. For about the same price as what the A40 sold for (or just a little more) you can get the A70, which has several added features over the A60, but the primary one is an extra megapixel. There's apparently an A75 getting ready to come out, so the A70 and A60 are probably about to be discontinued in the next few months.
I think it probably varies by product line (the higher end models seem to have a little more staying power), but it seems that for the most part, models seem to stay around about a year. But that probably depends a lot on how popular it is, how quickly the competition releases a better competing model, and how quickly the company itself develops new technology and features. |
