What do all y'all think of this idea. I think it'd be pretty fun actually. Maybe the criteria could include quality of comments (community service), forum posts, outstanding member, and other little tidbits. Just though it would be interesting to see what y'all think.

OK then, I nominate dsidwell as he, in my personal view has shown the most caring, positive and constructive view on other photographers and their works as anyone Iâve seen on this site. |

I just thought it might be a neat idea to encourage people even more involved witht the site. I wasn't neccassarily referring to this particular thread, but having it be part of the site, and maybe the Site Council could have a monthly vote on that or something.

I like the idea, too. Maybe people could just nominate someone who they feel deserves it and it could be randomly chosen. |

I have an idea. Why not get the top scorers through the month, with a minimum of 3 contests..or however many... and put up a poll. Then of coarse an option for a write in candidate.
I think its a fantastic idea from goinskiing. |

I think it should be a random vote, then even if your scores are low (like mine) you still have a chance.

What's a random vote? How's that work? |

That could be easily calculated, let say if someone participated in at least 4 challemges that month, total the score, divide by number of challenges and the top scorer can be DPC'er of the month! |

Thats pretty much what I was saying...but pick the top 4 or so..then have a poll who everyone want as the photographer of the month. I think it would make it more interesting then just handing it over to the top scorer.
And DTouch1, thats why I said there could be a write in entry. |

Let's just have a popularity contest instead. |

Yeah, no kidding. I had enough of highschool "politics" to last me a lifetime. We don't need it here.

Yup. :)
I'd rather see users of the month picked on things other than score. We already award and recognize those who score well but I think that there are a number of people who do a lot to contribute to this site who don't necessarily win ribbons. It'd be nice to recognize those people as well. |

I would rather see the site showcasing members who regularly submit instead of a popularity contest. The winningest photographers are already the most popular and a vote system would be heavily weighted in their favour, as if they need the extra exposure.
Maybe we could showcase one or two people a month that have submitted a pre-determined number of submissions within a certain time frame. Purely as an example, site council and admins could set a minimum benchmark for showcasing photographers who have submitted to two or three challenges per month (?), for the last two months. Then have a random selection among the pool of qualifying photographers.
This would encourage people to continue submitting since it would showcase members who are active and not those who submit maybe once or twice a year and those who haven't submitted for the longest time. This would give us a chance to "meet" photographers of every skill level and interest rather than only those who consistently score top-10.
A more equitable technique, yes?
