My mother enjoys restoring old photos and is successful using CS3. Recently she has been attempting to restore her own wedding photos that are Chrome Oxide, that seem to resist her attempts at being acceptable. Is there a software better suited to restoration? Yes I have Goggled and what I have seen as examples of a finished product are a bit tacky.
Thank You

What do Chrome Oxide prints look like? Got any examples? (can't find any in google)
And which aspect is she having problems with, the colour restoration?

| I don't know really, I asked if she could get me a scan or 2 but I have not received them yet. I'm guessing Chrome Oxide would have been popular around 1960 as that was when they where married. |

That'd be useful.
Also, do you know if she's referring to the negative or the photographic paper when she says 'Chrome Oxide' ?
Types of paper
Types of film
or perhaps she's referring to the Ilfochrome process? |

Ok, I got it wrong it is Silver Oxide, possibly a Albumen print.
I will get some scans later today. |

I'm not sure what editing software you think will be more effective than Photoshop (the de facto "industry standard" editing program). I also don't think the paper or developing process should make much of a difference unless the paper has a texture.
You haven't said exactly what kinds of problems there are with the photos, but perhaps the most effective aid to photo restoration would be a graphics tablet/stylus -- even the smallest can make a huge difference when it comes to retouching operations. |
