Peppermint Snowballs
1 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup confectioner's sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup ground nuts (optional)
Filling
2 TBS. cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup confectioner's sugar
1 tsp. milk
3 TBS. crushed peppermint candy (candy canes)
1 drop red food coloring
Topping
1/2 cup crushed peppermint candy
1/2 cup confectioner's sugar
In a mixing bowl, cream butter & sugar. Beat in vanilla. Gradually add flour. Stir in nuts if desired. Knead dough until pliable. Cover & refrigerate for about an hour.
In a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese, sugar, milk, candy & food color. Roll your dough into 1 inch balls. Poke a deep hole in the center with the back end of a wooden spoon and fill hole with 1/4 teaspoon of filling. Pinch hole and reroll into ball.
Roll balls in your topping mixture. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 12 - 14 minutes on 350F. Remove from oven, while still hot, reroll into topping mixture. Makes about 3 1/2 dozen.

We haven't had an update in awhile; you're worrying me... How's your mom doing? |

A laugh? That is profound. I've heard of such things being attempted, but I've never seen it until now. |

Yum! I love these things. When I make the next batch I'll try it your way. Did you double the filling recipe & poke a bigger hole? I had company tonight and ended up sending a bunch of cookies home with them. So far I did these, chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin chip, and almond spritz with homemade raspberry jam filling. |

Hey Team Suckers, I just got a note from Sara - she asked me to pass along her sincere thanks and appreciation for your thoughts, prayers and kinds words - they mean a lot to her. Her Mum is still in the hospital with some complications, but she is able to talk to Sara, so that is good. Sara will be by now and then when she can. |

Polka Dots, featuring vawendy!
Sorry for the extended absence. After the trip to Iowa, I got wrapped up and overwhelmed with other life issues. I'll get results posted regularly again.
On a lighter note, I did get my balls signed at the company holiday party... I won a game ball from Superbowl XX, signed by 3 Bears players who were at the party. |

I'm so glad that you posted, I sure have been thinking about her and her mom... I'm so glad she is able to talk to Sara, and I hope the complications aren't too bad. Thanks Deb, for updating us!

I got this email from a friend of mine last night. I'm going to repost it here, and then go do some searching myself - hoping one of you can point me in the right direction though.
This person :
- has no vehicle or driver's licence
- will not purchase anything online
- needs this before Christmas
We're in Canada. The $500 limit is in $CDN and must include taxes.
Help, J wants an SLR camera... I really want to get him one and have come into a windfall of $500 that I can spend but so far all I am seeing is $800 and UP(to like $4000). I know you did a lot of shopping around recently-ish. Help me please? I have no idea what is good quality. He would like an SLR that would take his old Minolta lenses as well. He had a pretty fancy camera when we met and likes to take pictures, I would really like to surprise him for Christmas. Call me or e-mail me and we can set up a shopping date or something. I know it's awful short notice and everything is probably hiked because it's shopping time but I only got the money today and he tossed out the SLR camera as an idea that I am sure he doesn't think I can pull off.

The Sony dSLRs take old Minolta lenses, I believe. I was in a store when a young lady brought in her old Minolta and some lenses and we tried them out. I think the basic Sony plus the kit lens may be in the range your friend is considering but would require some research.

Have you tried kijiji.com, Craigslist.com etc in your area? Something might turn up. For example have seen D40 kits for around $300 on usedOttawa.com. Hope this helps. |
