Hi,
My daughter is finalizing her portfolio for submission to college Fine Art programs. She's a 17 year old high school senior and IMO her work has greatly improved BUT as her Dad I'm biased. I'd like to hear what you think of her images and both positive and negative comments are welcome. Her work can be viewed at:

I think they are stunning. Really good. There is strong sense of space and narrative in them. I can't think of any negative comments at all. They are definitely 'fine art' images. |

I'll have to give it some thought. It is the kind of stuff that might not do well in a challenge here, but I see this as effort to document the feel of a locale. A variation of street photography, in a way. I know someone in my area who specializes in documenting buildings and especially their demolition. He's even had a show recently. Has she thought of photographing these places with the people that work and live in them?
I think the one that I like the best is the one of the roadside motor lodge. It is something that has been mostly replaced by giant chain motels these days. The one I really don't like at all is the chain link fence. Nothing about that one gets my attention. The liquor store also grabs my attention, but I am not sure exactly why.

while they are all great shots, i feel that many of them are the same. Maybe she can mix things up a bit, it gets a little repetitive in my opinion. i agree about the gate one as well, maybe she should switch that one out.

i like the look, but after the 5th shot I was anticipating what the rest would look like... and I was right.
They're very predictable and samey after a while and whilst she's trying to establish a theme- identical photos do more harm than good. I'm sure there's more stuff you can do with a building than shoot it at 45 degrees on at night.
She's doing good though but it isn't pushing the boundaries of anything, or showing a different perspective from every person who's walked past those buildings.
So, the technicals are great but I think I'm missing the point. |

Thanks for the feedback! This is very helpful and she still has time to make some adjustments to her portfolio.
Thank you very much!
