That's it, no more halfarsed entries! When I wake up tomorrow, there will be a new challenge announced, and I'm going to beat my PB (currently 6.2146), or at least get another avg above 6 so I have 5 top rated photos over 6. Whatever the challenge, I will go for it this week! Thank god Nude was a few weeks ago...

How often are you thinking the same or something similar?

In advance, sorry for starting a thread I am sure exists somewhere in these aprox 160 pages. And, sorry for posting in the wrong forum section?

Actually, I've been tapering off on the entries lately. I Used to feel I had to enter something, but have been less motivated recently. Got one rolling out of voting tonight, one up for the freestudy, and am considering an idea for tools of the trade. May or may not enter that one, though.

I can't seem to really produce a 6+ on demand. I seem to do better following NikonJeb's advice, and shooting what I like, improving on those as I learn. I seem to have had a string of high scores, lately however, and my bombs are in the low 5's instead of the 4's, so either I have gotten better or just nailed a few lucky shots.

I spent 2 hours lastnight shooting macro's, It is kind of hard to come up with something good because everything has been done to death. So tonight I am going to give the Tools a shot and see what I come up with. I don't sweat scores too much anymore, I do hate it when I get low votes on an image that the majority of voters score higher, But I also know it is too be expected here. That being said, I have entered one of the best shots I have ever taken into this months freestudy and expect to get a high mark Aiming for a 7+. If this one gets voted down. I will be more upset then usual because it is one of those shots I always dreamed about taking. I also have one entered in the Polka Dot challenge but I am not expecting that one to clear 5.5 Then again, Ya just never know how it will go until the first 20+ votes roll in.

Every time I plan to score higher, it ends up bombing. Like Steve ( Yo_Spiff) I've learned to shoot and enter what I like. My last few scores have ranged from 4.9 to 2 at 5.9 or so. If I don't like my idea, I have no problem passing up a challenge, although I used to enter nearly every challenge, hence my low scoring average!

I haven't entered in a while, and certainly nothing I've really put an effort into, so I'm in for going for a PB in tomorrow's announced challenge as well.

Plus... I just bought a new lens (thanks sekarmalathy!) and have learned a lot recently PP-wise.

Looking forward to the challenge now...

nope! If I shoot for a challenge, I usually enter it regardless if it will bomb or not. Usually I learn something from the process. (well, usually I learn "I think this will bomb. Yup! It did!)

But I figure, what the heck? So I have a photo for polka-dot that is certainly not PB material. I'm thinking it's probably below average. But I'm entering it anyway.

I rather shoot something I like (nature, sports, low-end fashion, + thousands of other things), but you can't always shoehorn your prefered shots into challenges. Say tomorrows challenge is "MINT", then probably 80% have to think outside the factory that makes the boxes you usually think outside of.

DPC forces us to be creative, and I learn alot from chasing scores everynow and then. I'll do my best on producing a 6+ photo, whether I like it or not.

But, true, my 6+ entries have been snapshots, modelish shoot, and a lucky capture on some nature, and then there's the 5.8 which got favorited (many thanks on that) with a rather weird story. Basically another snapshot. So producing a 6+ on demand seems impossible, but I'm up for my own little challenge! The more photos you can succesfully pull of, the more photos you will eventually be able to take? Or something like that?

aint that a long and blabbering post. I'm so worked up over my goal for tomorrows challenge that i can't sleep. I sure hope it won't be MINT...

I had one of those photos.. I understand why it got hammered and bombed today, but I was sure disapointed when the voting started... arg.. I'll be the first one to check which entry yours is for the FS. I have a strange one for the FS as well I better start editing to make it presentable.

Pull a PB over 6.7 this week and you won't get rid of me as a fan =)

When I first joined, the challenges each week drove me to shoot. Then I started picking and choosing challenges. Then I started shoehorning too much.

My challenge this week is to go back to the beginning and commit to a challenge not announced yet.

Front page will be my goal.

ETA: Er, maybe top 3.

I threw away my shoehorn, I'm becoming comfortable with my style and type of shooting, and I don't give a hoot how my scores go if I make sure I'm happy with the image before I submit it.

I am having *SO* much more fun!

I was up to a 6.9 mid week last week. Thought I had it licked then it dropped like a rock in 24 hours and I ended up at the dreaded 13th place. :) We shall see...

Powerlines? Could be worse! Powerlines it is =)

I'm still in search for my own style, Nikonjeb, and powerlines is not even close to what looks like my style so far. Needs to think outside the box again. Could be fun!

Looking forward to see your entry, TCGuru!

haha!! that's exactly what it is! I hate not having two things to watch. One is pretty dull, not much happens. Anyway, I probably have the wrong attitude, because I have absolutely no faith that I can ever beat my personal best. I think I'll get into the high 6s again, but I don't think I'll ever do another 7 (unless my bluebirds come back next spring!!) So I never go out to shoot for my personal best, because I have no idea how to ever do it.

I guess POWERLINES is better than MINT. I'm giving it my darndest too.

I guess it's all in the perspective. I'm quite looking forward to power lines. I am always trying to avoid them, they're such a fact of life, and if anything, I'm having trouble deciding which aspect of them I'm gonna shoot!
12/01/2009 06:46:39 AM · #20
I already have several photos in my mind. Just have to get out there and find them!

I feel so good about my macro entry now so at the moment I couldn't care less about powerlines, but I will keep on trying. I was also thinking making this into a contest of sorts. A very short and brief contest?

The rules are simple. Break your own PB or you're out of the contest. I can't see that it would last longer than 3 to 4 rounds at max.

Judi put together a "Better than Average" side contest together last year.....it was fun.

Was just a thought. Have to think about it.

I entered the challenge already.. HOPEFULLY I will be able to shot a new photo later this week, but at least I'm in the challenge if I'm not able to do. Another mid 5 I HOPE!

So far I'm not even close to my PB, but I'm at a 5.8 (which I expect will drop very soon)! How's your photo doing?
