Just wondering if it would be possible for us to receive a couple of days warning before speed challenges - stating that there will be a speed challenge, not what it is.

With the difference in time zones between where different members live, a 24 hour challenge can leave someone with only a few hours in which to enter if they don't know when such a challenge is scheduled. I usually only get onto the internet late at night, which means that I could effectively have 2-3 hours in which to do a 24 hour challenge, be limited to what is available at home, and forced to use artificial light.

I must add that I was most impressed with the standard of entries in the "My shadow" speed challenge. Sadly this was one I was not able to enter.

Seems like a lot of the speed challenges pop up during a 3 day U.S. holiday or a holidays that are observed in a lot of countries; Christmas, Halloween, Easter, etc.

Next one may or may not be Valentines Day on Feb 14.,so start thinking about it now.

I dont meant to be argumentitive. But 24 hours, is 24 hours no matter where you are. Seems like its more a problem of when you get on the internet, then it is the time change. Again...not being rude, just stating..a day is a day, no matter where you are in the world.

So far it's been fairly easy to predict when speed challenges happen. If there is a holiday soon then you can pretty much feel safe thinking about ideas beforehand and planning the shot. Even if the admin's are sneaky and dont do the predictable speed challenge you can still do the shot for fun. I dont recall many speed challenges that werent expected long before they were announced.

If there was a warning, then that would take away some of the challenge. :) Though, I somewhat "feel your pain". Being on the west coast, it seems like we loose 3 hours the evening a speed challenge is due. On the other hand, if we check in at 9pm, we have an advantage of staying up all night. :)

And a big thanks to the admins for sending e-mail notices now. That's a huge help.

I'd be willing to bet there will be a 24 or 48 hour Valentines day challenge coming up!

I think that is reason enough not to have one. Seems of very little significance if it is that easy to predict, and certainly not a speed challenge.

Maybe it is time to stop with the holiday themes.

I was wondering why the email notification of speed challenges does not work (I thought Admin said they were working)?

I have never received a notification.

quote from your preferences:

Speed Challenges - E-mail me when there's a 24- or 48-Hour Challenge I can compete in.

I will second that motion....

Whilst very fun, being as predictive as they are it kind of defies the point of a 24 hr challenge. Better to have them at random with random subjects.

They were not going out for anyone before, but now they are. There have been previous email problems with DQ verification requests.

Check that the email on file with DPC is valid, and that your ISP is not spam-filtering out the domain from which DPC mail comes.

You should also send a note directly to the admins via the menu Help>Contact.

Okay, maybe notification does take the challenge out of it if it's possible to predict what the challenge will be. But at least a 48 hour challenge gives everyone a fair chance. When it's only 24 hours, the chances are I will find out about it too late to enter.

I think we've only had a couple of 24-hour challenges. I suspect most will be 48-hour just for the reasons you specify ... but only the admins know for sure.
