Sweet. An early Christmas gift, complete with a shiny bow on top!

Sounds great! Thanks for all the new shiny improvements added to the site!

Long overdue, but not going into that now.. cheers Langdon - cant wait to see it in action.

Great addition. Thanks Langdon.

Would be nice if there were a way to use it to send group PMs, which could come in handy when running side challenges and tourneys, not to mention DPL when we get around to season 2 (yeah, right). I'm guessing there's a way to set it up so users can opt in to specific groups, to avoid the potential for abuse/spam.

I like retrieving all my email in one place so it's great that we have the option to leave it as it is now.

However, if I am on the site it would be convenient to see PMs as they come in. If the email option is chosen will PMs be available for viewing on the site as well or is it just one or the other?

That's pretty much what it will be. You will also have the ability to send PMs to multiple recipients, and view replies (whether sent via email or on the site) on the site in a threaded format. You will have the ability to reply to all participants, or reply privately to the author of any PM in the thread, though it will not be possible to directly forward a PM, or to add/remove recipients on the fly. A reply via email to a PM will go to all recipients (essentially a reply to all), a reply privately to the author can be done on the site.

PMs will be stored and available on the site regardless. A copy will also go to your email, as they do now, unless you turn that option off (you will be able to do this on the Preferences page once the new PM feature goes live).

All this is absolutely elegant.
Glad it is about to be implemented.
Thank you.

The core functionality is ready to go. We're still working through some last-minute user-interface and cosmetic issues, and making a change to limit the potential for abuse by spammers. Once those are resolved it will be up to Langdon to flip the virtual switch.

Given the nature of the change, we felt it was important to make an announcement ahead of the change, to give those who might be concerned about privacy matters a chance to ask their questions and have them satisfactorily answered before any production messages were sent through the new system.

Is captcha going to be implemented?

The exact details are not yet finalized, but my understanding is they will only affect new accounts.

langdon...have you guys thought about a better search system for users and images but mainly for the Challenges History?

Bump for anyone who missed this yesterday and/or has additional questions. The new PM feature is scheduled to go live tomorrow.

Really looking forward to this.

Is it Thursday yet? :-)

Langdon must be immersed in Thanksgiving festivities (and rightfully so).

I missed it yesterday, so thanks for the bump.
The private message system is a super idea. Thanks Langdon.

I mentioned this in the site suggested forum when I first started and every post was saying how they liked the way it is. Now everyone seems to be on board. Weird how forum sites work and who people listen to.

Regardless this is a great idea and like langdon said most other forums incorporate this type of PM system with great sucess. I'd much rather have my PM's within each forum rather than having my emails clogged with them.

Thanks

This is a great improvement you'll be installing there, Langdon.
Such an option is always nice to have.

I like how people sometimes use non-existent (or extremely light) stats to support their point. :-)

Just checked that thread...there were 6 different people that posted at all, of which 3 voiced an opinion on the subject (2 against the idea, 1 mostly for it). Of course, I may have miscounted in keeping track of that one page thread. :-P

I welcome the idea. thanks admins.

Sorry just seemed to be no interest at all in the subject when mentioned and yes from that post the people that were talking about it and not going off on a tangent either didn't like it or seen no reason to have it. It's posted once by an admin and all of a sudden it's a splendid idea! Guess I was just disappointed that I mentioned it and got nothing. I'm selfish.

BTW who was the one person that was "mostly for it"? By my stats every one who weighted in leaned against it. Spiff. OK that one can go either way I guess?
