Does anyone know whether or not collections can be made for pictures on an external hard drive? My laptops hard drive was getting way too full so I bought a 750gig external that is always attached to my laptop and I moved all of my pictures over there (I also back them up on another external hard drive).

Since I moved them over, I haven't been able to make "collections" in Bridge (it says it doesn't find anything with the criteria I set). I was wondering if it was just impossible with my external drive or if I needed to do something special.

First of all....... HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

I just realized that "find" doesn't work either.

When I filter by keywords, I can see everything fine within a specific folder... but if I do a find (which can then be converted to a "collection" in Bridge) it doesn't find anything if the folder I select is on my external hard drive. I've tried all kinds of options. What I really want is for it to search my entire external hard drive for pictures using various search criteria.

For example, if I navigate in Bridge to a folder on my external hard drive, and filter on a keyword ("bird"), I can then see all of pictures with "birds" as the keyword in THAT folder (I organize my folders by month). The thing is, I frequently want to look at ALL of my bird pictures so I give all of them a "bird" keyword. When my pictures were on my internal drive, the collection worked great at finding all bird shots on the whole drive. Now that doesn't work at all, even if I just try to find them (Edit... Find).

It's driving me insane. I have tried searching all over the place online & nothing is helping. If anyone out there has bridge and pictures on an external hard drive, I would REALLY appreciate it if you can see if it works for you. I can't imagine Bridge not allowing a find on an external hard drive...

Hi, yes I can do a keyword 'find' for pictures on an external HD (from Bridge CS4) :)

Tammy have you ticked 'include all subfolders' when you're 'finding' in your collections? :)

Thanks so much for helping out! I was very concerned that it couldn't be done, that by moving my pictures to an external hard drive, I lost the ability to keep collections. Now I just have to figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Yes, I have been checking "include all subfolders". I also tried JUST searching directly in the subfolder (with and without that box checked) and that still didn't work).

For anyone who might one day have this problem:

I had to change the location of my cache (edit/preferences/cache) to be on my external drive since it uses the cache for the search.

Phew. Now I can go enjoy my Thanksgiving. :o)
