I got it to work just fine, but it does a poor job, even separating a black shirt from a red background. My experience with it at any rate. :-/

Send me the picture I would like to try it out. I installed it on 2 of my machines and the one it does work on I've used it with over 100 pictures so far. It's my new best friend. Send me your picture, then you edit it to add a white BG, post it on here so we can see how crappy the cut out is. then I will do the same. I'll hold my breath until you send the picture, :: Takes a deep breath in:: OKAY GO

I didn't save it. But I'll re-do it tomorrow if I have a chance. :-)

Here's an experiment for ya; do it over with a REALLY big brush, like 200 pixels, and watch what happens. That'll give ya an idea what's going on here :-)

strange, worked fine for me. Are you sure you followed the instructions carefully? (like, using pure 128-128-128 gray for covering the border, and covering it with completely, and using pure 0-0-0 black outside the selection, it is all essential). I haven't used it that much, tend to use selections very rarely.

Yes. But I did use a fairly wide brush for the gray, but I thought it was pretty reasonable, and allowed me to work without zooming. I'll give it another try on something else, though. I'd really like to get it to working for me.

Same here. So far my limited experiments have proven to be literally worthless. I still need to mess with it more, and it could definitely be user malfunction, but I'm curious to see what you find. I loaded the action fine and it shows up in my filters menu and everything. Maybe I'll spend the weekend learning how to use the world's easiest and fastest masking plugin. :\
BTW, I thought the tutorials say "any shade of gray" not 128-128-128.

I just bought this about two hours ago and have been playing around with it and gotten very mixed results. Anyone have any tips?

Wait a couple weeks; they are about to bring online a major interface upgrade that will make the currently awkward do-it-through-photoshop system a thing of the past. Free to all registered users. A really nice plug-in type interface where you will be able to do everything intuitively.

The newsletter says that they are also putting out a speed-up for Topaz Detail. Have you read anything more on this?

For anybody that got Topaz ReMask v1.0, ReMask v2.0 is out now. The upgrade is free, just follow the link provided and use your existing ReMask license key.

I like the simplicity of ReMask v.1 but v2 processes the channels much better.

For what it's worth to anyone. I found out the bug in v1 the other day.

I posted a while back that I get an error with the program when trying to use it but couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work on my desktop but it would on my laptop. Well it turns out that if you have your history state set higher than 20 it errors out the program. Now I didn't sit around and play with it to figure out how high you can go with the history but I do know it would not work with my history state at 1000.

I changed it back to 20 and it works perfectly.

I was having issues with v1.0 and had mixed thoughts on how useful it is. v2.0 is great, from what I've put it through thus far. Fast, easy, quite effective. It even did a decent job masking around objects that transferred into and out of focus, so edges were of a wide variety of hardnesses. I've been impressed. It now has an interface more typical of the other Topaz products I have used in that it launches a secondary window wherein your work is done.
