As the title sais, it fell down aprox 3 feet and hit the floor. It was inside the bag that comes along with it and everything is fine except the zoom from around 16mm to 14mm is VERY stiff/hard to use. Anyone of you experienced that?

Guess the only thing to do is to get it repaired. What are the repairguys able to do? I have no idea! And do you think it would harm the lens even more if I used it? It kinda sucks that it happened when there's a landscape challenge, and I'm in no economic state to pay for a repair this month (used my last savings on the lens, the irony of that is kinda painfull...).

Ouch! I feel for you.

My friend just took his Canon lens that he dropped into a service centre because it wouldn't zoom as well. He never told them about the drop and they repaired it under warranty. You might want to try that approach and see what happens.

I bought it used, and the damage seems very... "my fault", so I probably have to pay up. But I just read an article, and I don't think my repair will be thaaat expensive! Hopefully... Gonna call them tomorrow.

You find alot of things on the internet if you know what to search for! It seems this is a fault that many of these lenses have, so the warranty will cover this if I'm a tad lucky! I would never thought of that, so I guess it's only fair I send you the money I would otherwise have used on reapairs to you, Covert_Oddity ;)

Or you can just send me the lens since it's clearly broken, and also happens to be the next one on my shopping list ;)

you don't have to tell them it was dropped...they'll know as soon as they see it and/or open it up. kinda like the cell phone people know when a battery has been subjected to water; there are some things you just can't hide, no matter how clever you want to be...

canon, at least in my experience, has been fairly liberal in deciding what to repair under warranty and what to charge for, and i've always been surprised at how little they charge. hopefully, bjamy will get an equally fair shake from the nikon people.

I can also blame it the mail delivery guys (shipped last week). It was sent under an insurance that will cover damage up to 2300$, and I know for a fact that it wasn't treated with "love and care" (the box looks like a bomb shelter). My old 70-300mm went through a worse accident and didn't get as much as a scratch. Point is, it should survive a 3 feet long fall while being inside that massive bag it came along with. When I think about it, I've only used this lens one time. That was in below 0 degrees, so I kept in the camera bag for an extra day to "defrost" it. I didn't try it after that until the accident where I instinctly mounted it on the camera to test it. Another point, my little accident doesn't nescesarily have to be the cause!

I think I will get my lens fixed in one way or the other without being the one with the economic consequence. At least worth a try!
