It's up to each individual. Terry was talking to one in specific, who now has a star by his entry, in the stats, that many feel is unearned. None of the others you're referring to have that distinction.

And then there is MichaelC's image that should be DQéd too, to ensure that there would now be three new top 20 images!!!!

Completely agree. No-one will admit not following the challenge brief now, will they? Not after this spectacle. How are we ever going to know who else lied? :/
I don't see why Gerry alone should be pressured into a self-dq. It's nonsense to ask it of anyone really. |
I would like to know whether the previous rule breakers in the Self Portrait/2 second shutter and other such challenges, were pressured this much. And if they did or didn't DQ, and how those rulebreakers are treated now!!!!! It would be an interesting comparison!

So my best justification for not 'fessing up when I done wrong, in this life, is to say "I don't see anyone else 'fessing up and doing the right thing, so why should I?"
Sheesh...

Wow....that would be an incredibly bold statement of integrity and humility! Are you willing to take that ONE step and set an example which would exemplify dignity in this creative environment? Or is it not your problem because you didnt rank high?
I would applaud you if you were so inspired. Hell, I'd be downright stupefied!
Are you up to the challenge or are all of us misaligned with your values as well? |

You guys are missing the point. There is no way (short of getting members to video their own steps to the location of their shot) of knowing who else lied about their entry. What about the ribboners? Are you sure they all followed the brief? If they didn't, shouldn't they feel the pinch too? What about the rest of the top 10? Top 20? Where does it end?

Funny, I have this little mechanism inside me that governs my actions. I do not and would not cheat or mislead at the expense of others. Its an ethical voice that knows right from wrong and it speaks very clearly.
You know what, I'm damn proud of that!

Oh don't be mistaken, I have done plenty wrong in my life and was taught at a young age the value in accountability. I do not need to take a bow as it is not boastful but simply a truth.
Obviously, this seems to be too big a step for you and the others who have ranked at the expense of those fools who counted their steps and scratched their head to find a shot from their legitimate and designated locations.
You demand respect and yet you act disrespectfully?
Sorry princess, not in my books.

Some people are colour blind, some are tone deaf.
Perhaps some people (offenders and supporters alike) are born either without a conscience, or with one that functions on a lower level.
If that is the case, then we need to be ready to forgive them, but THEY need to ready to accept the lessons offered by others. |

Feel pretty hypocritical huh? Don't worry, you'll rationalize it soon enough.
I still challenge you to take the high road. Ask for a DQ. Set an example. Be extraordinary! You'll set the lead for future challenges and still come out as a hero and the wise and accomplished one. |

NOPE...I won't. Because I do not believe that I broke any rules. As I said before....back off MATE!

Well, everyone else, just about, has weighted in on this, so I might as well too.
As many have pointed out, this site is dedicated to challenging entrants to find & interpret something that meets the parameters set out by the Challenge. Since many people want to enter these Challenges, but have difficulty in meeting the parameters, they are enormously creative, including in this instance, taking 47 enormously giant steps to the seashore and other photogenic spots.
About the only one that ever 'got away with it' in my book is Ellamay with this entry back in 2004: which somehow just didn't fit in Garage Art. But because she was upfront about it and created a funny image, people, including me, enjoyed her creativity. However, I must add, the entry did not do well in the Garage Art Challenge.
The tag line to this little story might be, if you're going to "shoehorn" at least be up-front about it and it doesn't hurt to be funny.
Back to regular programming.

Oh please, nobody is attacking you for goodness sake. Cool it with the dramatics. If your only response is "BACK OFF MATE", that's pretty self self serving and lame. BTW, I ain't your mate. |

I think we can all agree that Judi did the best she could within the parameters. Wrong house, but it's where she was staying (right? right?). And it was 47 steps (right?).
We can also agree that MichaelC was pushing it. Had he specified whether the steps were taken from the place where he was staying while away from home, or whether he thinks the number of steps was closer to 30 or 50 or 500, we could judge. But don't be so quick to judge with such a vague description of the location.
Anyone else willing to fess up? I followed the rules as well as I could, because I come to DPC for a CHALLENGE and I tried to CHALLENGE myself. I received mostly low scores and ended up with a 5.25, but I was expecting much, much worse and was pleasantly surprised by the people that liked it. Why couldn't everyone else do the same? You do come here for a challenge, right? |

I doubt you will get many fessing up. Even the ones that fessed up but with legit reasons are getting harrassed in this thread. So much for showing honesty....!

I'm not harassing anyone!
There's no "fessing up with legit reasons" IMO. I've been out of the country for months and I took the steps from where I'm staying... that's not fessing up, that's me meeting the challenge. |

Man I am enjoying the bite that DPCers have the past 2 weeks...first the great watermark debate and now the sham entry debacle!! Gotta love it. Makes work more enjoyable for sure.
Carry on. |

And as did I....so why should I request a self DQ...? I am not saying you were harassing...I was generalizing so as not to point fingers. Those people know who they are...I won't bring them any further attention by naming them.
