OK, so I'm thinking of upgrading to one of these lenses but I don't know which one to go for (sigh)
I won't be going to FF so EFS is not a problem.
They both have IS
Weigh about the same
One has f2.8 whilst the other has more reach
One is weather sealed, the other not.
They cost about the same
One comes with a hood, the other doesn't (canon sucks - put the hoods in guys!!)
Which do you have and why did you choose it?
Are you happy with your choice?
What would you recommend?
If you have the 17-55 f2.8, do you have a dust problem with yours?
Thanks

these are the lenses you list,
Lenses: Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0L IS USM
Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM
Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS
Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM
Tamron SP AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di for Canon
based on it, i think you can pick anything because you already not missing anything.
only thing that i feel you missing in pack is 50mm f1.4 or 50mm f1.2 or 85 mm f1.2 or a 135mm f2.5 (if there is any in canon mount). But these are the lenses you didn't ask for. |

I made the same choice (on a 50D) and went for the 17-55mm. Why?
- In UK it is about £150-200 cheaper.
- I wanted the extra stop, sometimes f4 just isn't enough. I figured f2.8 and IS...
- The reviews for the 17-55 were almost unanimously great - the 24-105 seemed to be split.
- I wanted the extra width at the wide end (and have used it a lot since)
- I have a 70-200, so the extra reach is not critical to me.
Verdict? I absolutely love this lens. It's sharpness springs out from even small or completely unprocessed images. The range works really well for me. And no, I have had no problems with dust even when I took the lens to Africa.
Hope that helps, although it is a little one-sided! |

Definitely keeping:
Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM
Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0L IS USM
May sell others to fund new purchase
Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS (may keep as a walkaround)
24-105 would be a good walkaround range (might consider selling the 18-200 then)
but f2.8 .....

if i were you i would buy
canon 17-55 f2.8
because
Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM
is too slow. |

| I had the 17-85 and replaced it with the 17-55 f2.8 and find it is a much sharper lens, massively less distortion at 17mm and the added bonus of f2.8. I've not had any dust issues and have had the lens for about a year I think, it's a great lens. As you already have the 70-200 f4 the 17-55 would fit in much better than the 24-105 imho |

| I have the 17-55 f/2.8 and love it. It's incredibly sharp and has a very versatile range. I also have the 70-200 f/4 IS, so I sold my 24-105. I haven't had any dust issues... |
