Album to me means vinyl. teehee

I haven't played an old album in a long time but would probably put on The Seekers.

Nothing like good old standard folk music to put you in a mellow mood.

Was listening to "Rubber Soul" the other day, reflecting on how underrated Ringo was as a drummer. Really top notch. Does that speak "old album" to anybody else out there? Santana "Abraxas" still knocks me out, first three cuts just meld together wonderfully. Led Zeppelin 1,2,3...whichever. Pink Floyd. Steely Dan. Good Stuff, Maynard!

You don't even wanna see my vinyl collection. I went through a phase where I had too much money and nothing to spend it on (oh the joys of being 17) so I would go out to a show, record store, ebay, and buy 50 7" at a time. I've cut back alot, but I still pick up at least 50 lp/ep a year.

*Even now when I go to a show, if a band has vinyl, I pick up a copy and any variant they have (different colors/cover art/etc). This is why I have 7 or 8 copies of the same record, all different pressings/color.

My favorite one I own (and I own 6 of them, and there are like 11 more pressings I think):

How cool is that?

Old?? I have all the Beatles albums, all Pink Floyd, loads of Hendrix, Stones, XTC, The Cult to name but a few. Liked Punk in the late '70s, early '80s. The Stranglers were and still are one of my favourite bands. Bought Beach Boys Greatest Hits the other day. Dug out my Kingston Trio album given to me by my older sister's American boyfriend back in '60s.

The Stone Roses debut album recently turned 20, that album is the soundtrack to my teens/early twenties. I have been listening to it again on Spotify recently (the remasters) and it is probably the best album I have ever heard. Not surprised it usually tops the polls in `best album ever` surveys.. In the UK at least.

Yep, agree! Bought it a couple of weeks ago and it sounds better than original which has been on my MP3 players for years.

One of my biggest regrets is never having the chance to see them live - Whilst Ian Brown doesn't have the best live voice around, the experience was supposed to be, quite literally, out of your head this world.

I doubt the reformation will ever happen now after the recent announcement by John Squire, but at least I have got to see Brown & Squire in playing live seperately (Squire when he was in the Seahorses ) and a live solo set by Brown.

If they did reform, then I will be donning my baggy jeans, beanie hat and will be at the front of the Q.

Isaac and I listen to a lot of Simon & Garfunkel, Grateful Dead, Phil Ochs, Ian & Sylvia, Pete Seeger ... I'm waiting until I can find a CD to introduce him to Tom Lehrer. We've been to see Tom Paxton live a couple of times, and we play (guitar and clarinet) at least one Beatles and one Bob Dylan song ...

I remember reading a quote from Lennon or McCartney (cant remember which one) and they was asked "Do you think Ringo is the best drummer in the world?" to which they replied

"Ringo? He's not even the best drummer in the Beatles"..

I have some newer stuff and have to admit that I rarely listen to them much. I do the usual three or four times in one hit to get familiar with the album/CD and of course there are good tracks on most albums, but many just aren't 'good albums' where you like the whole package.

One of my current collections is Joe Bonamassa's complete catalogue, including his time with Bloodline 1994 and can't really fault them. He is a developing artist who has progressed his musical range over the course of his albums, whilst retaining his first love, Blues guitar. He isn't afraid to admit that he is influenced by Paul Rodgers(another fav from Free, thru Bad Company to Queen), Eric Clapton etc.

Funnily enough, I have never time stamped any of my music, I never think that a certain album is over 40 years old. Good music is timeless. Good musicians don't stop playing, despite the pitfalls of life. Peter Green is a good example of this, from Fleetwood Mac to grave digger and now back performing and recording, thanks a lot to Gary Moore and his affection for Greens Blues:))

You know what band suffered from a sub par drummer? AC/DC.

Imagine if they had an amazing drummer...oh man.

Just bought Joe Bonamassa 'Live at the Royal Albert Hall 2009' double DVD. Checked out tickets for next May at Hammersmith, all seating is sold out, standing room only!!

Where is that brown parcel? Nope, no delivery yet!

I've been renting the new remastered Beatles CDs these past few weeks. One thing I have noticed is the drumming by Ringo really is great.
