I've been in serious want of a Canon 70-200mm for awhile, haven't decided which version, but noticed this morning the price at B&H has dropped $50 to $150 depending on version. No rebate to hassle with either. I take it this means the new version is coming soon. What changes could there be? I like the new prices, but if the new ones are significantly better it might be worth the wait. All I can imagine is better IS or focusing, any body know more?

Well, lens prices have been on the rise for the past many months, so this may be economic factors, or perhaps indicative of something new coming. Either way, it's good news.

I just picked up a used 80-200 f/2.8, and while it is a great older lens, without USM it just doesn't focus fast enough for my shooting. If something new comes out, I'd definitely be in the market to trade up.

the prices went up recently because of manufacturing costs in Japan. Maybe these have gone down?

You may be right, I did a quick look and a few of the mid-range zooms are discounted too. It might not be a model specific thing to the 70-200. I just heard some rumors a new one was coming out, and this seemed to reinforce that. Seems like they drop the price right before to clear out old stock.

Maybe something from the night time crew?
