So... bummed about my FS, I decided to go for a bike ride. Just up to my usual Sunday morning coffee place and back. All is good, until I picked up a nail in my back tire. Up until that point, I'd never had a flat. Oh, and I forgot my cell phone today.

So. Tire change. I've done this a number of times for other people. I've got a tube, I know this, but not sure about the CO2 because I've changed tires a number of times for other people, using my supplies... Any, turn bike upside down, discover I've turned it upside down in an area where people walk their dogs. Ugh..... Move to a corner of a lot, onto asphalt, which is slightly better than dog poo. Get wheel off, get tire off, get tube out. The hard part was then getting the nail out. You wouldn't think this would be hard, but it was a small finishing nail with no head, and I have no grip strength at all. It was hard. Finally got it out, then found a piece of paper to put inside the tire to temporarily cover the hole until I can patch it. Took me forever to get the tube seated, though. Kept having a small bit here or there that wasn't inside the bead. Grrr... Anyway, after way too long, finally got it all put together. By this time it was nearly dark, and I'd not put the light on the bike because I was only going for a 20 mile ride and had plenty of daylight left! Grrrr... Time for a hot bath. I'm still shivering.

On the plus side, I made it home in record time. :-)

The sad part of the story is the lack of help offered, sad state of affairs in the world today. Good on you for getting it done though..

Sounds like you had a lousy day Deb. Tomorrow will be better!

Look whose still around. I haven't been feeling very social lately, but that is improving. And this happy news helps -- a photo of mine was selected as third place winner for landscapes in the annual Florida Wildlife Federation photo contest.

Thanks to Bear_Music for helping me with the processing on this.

Oh, and the prize??? A 2010 calendar!

Melethia, I love your stories -- even the bad ones. Maybe writing an illustrated memoirs would be a good activity for retirement.

Poor Deb! I second Juli's suggestion.

Well done, Julie.

Apropos - sorta -

Dead trees usually host a lot of creepy crawly things whose work is important to the big eco-picture. It wouldn't surprise me at all if a few birds got wind of that...

That's exactly why the dead trees were left in place when they built this wetlands refuge about four years ago. And its a great place to dry off and to spot your next fish dinner.

I'm going out to by my beverage for tonight's challenge. I actually bought it yesterday, but I forgot to buy pop (ok, so I'm originally from the mid-west...), so I had to give my challenge prop to a bunch of giggling girls at my daughter's halloween party! ah well, out to get more!!

Hee hee, I think I'll try it -- sit in the top of a tree with my calendar and a fishing pole and dry my wings.

Thanks, everyone, for the kind comments.

Our little Sivana passed early this afternoon.
Michelle, I thank you for all your work, and it will be saved for the future, but I'm not quite ready to look at it just yet..
