The Philadelphia Phillies v The New York Yankees
Games 1 & 2 - Yankee Stadium
Games 3,4,5 - Citizens Bank Park
Games 6 & 7 - Yankee Stadium

Phillies took game 1 last night with a stellar start by pitcher Cliff Lee, who managed to shut down the Yankees offense and silence the big bats, as well as going 9 innings and almost a shut out (1 run earned on a throwing error by J-Roll). Phillies' Chase Utley made a statement early on with a solo shot (the first homerun CC's given up off a lefty at home all season) and then followed it up with a repeat in the 6th. Final score: 6-1

Tonite: Phillies' Pedro Martinze v Yanks' A.J. Burnett

To be honest, I don't mind the Yanks losing to Cliff Lee given how well he pitched. CC did a darn good job, and the bullpen just couldn't hold off Philly's batters. I think tonight's game will be a little different, especially if the Yanks can get to Pedro early.

Go Yanks!!

I am Yankees all the way but it's not looking good for the Yanks.

They shouldn't have lost last night and past world series have shown that the winner of game 1 usually wins the overall series. Not only that but the Yankees have never lost the first game at home in any of the world series they played. 6-1 was an ass kicking to the Yanks last night and I am disappointed in their level of play. They walked in thinking it would be a cake walk but the Phillies are in it to win it. Hopefully tonight they will step up their game and win another series.

I tuned in last night in time to catch the last couple of innings. Ouch (for the Yanks). Lee was amazing -- did you see that behind-the-back catch? I hope the Yankees win tonight so they don't head to Philadelphia with two losses.

Sabathia looked pretty rough, but Phillies offense was swinging at a lot of junk, which is all that matters. Pedro is talking a big game going into the series tonite ("I AM THE MOST INFLUENTIAL PLAYER TO EVER STEP IN YANKEES STADIUM") And hes going to go in guns firing, so hopefully he can nail it.

My prediction: Phils in 6 games. I think they will lose tonite, take 2 out of 3 at home, and finish it up in game 6 in NY.

I don't think CC pitched that well last night at all. Out of the 7 innings he pitched he managed to give up 2 home runs, 4 base hits, and 3 walks.

I like the idea of bringing him back on short rest for game 4 because it seems he does better on short rest than full rest.

I'm for the Yanks.

Last night was too bad but I have to hand to Cliff Lee for getting the job done. I think though the sour point of the game for me was the announcing of Joe Buck and Tim McCarver. It was the pits. Thank goodness there is a mute button onmy remote. :)

Was it just me or did Mary Kay Messenger suck at singing God Bless America?

I think it is just you. I thought she did fine. She represented the armed forces very nicely IMO.

I'll take any starting pitcher that give us 7 innings with 2 runs and only 4 base hits. If our offense could've gotten to Lee, everyone would've been saying what a great outing CC had.

If you watch CC enough you'll know that he was off his game last night. He could have done better.

She did do the uncommon 'intro' to the song that most people are not familiar with. I would rather she have sung the song as most of us know it and done a couple of verses instead.

Yeah, he definitely got visibly ratted early on, especially after walking the bases loaded in the first, but by the 4th inning, his swagger was gone and he was shaken for sure. Again, not a bad start any other day, but its all relative.

Oh, sure. I'm not saying it was his best outing, but the guy is human. For any other pitcher it was a fine job. Again, if Lee hadn't been so dominant it would've been plenty good enough.

Why do they call it the World Series when only a small segment of the population living in the NE US care?

Oh hey look its that question again. THE WIT!

I would say because there is a good amount of players from other countries that play baseball.

Plus it sounds better then the NORTH EAST UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

I would have to agree with that. When CC was still in Milwaukee, They played the hell out of him in September while they were making a run at the playoffs and he did pretty damn good with only a day or two of rest. The Brewers management took some heat from the experts that they were going to burn him out but that was not the case He seemed stronger on short rest.

Phils shut him down in that series as well, but to be honest, dude was going on like 4 games in 12 days or something stupid.

Is this baseball? That's the game like rounders, played by primary school girls, isn't it?

I don't think you want baseball players hanging out with your primary school girls...

But its got the Yankees, aren't they supposed to be Americas team?

And to all you foreigners - WE GET IT, ITS NOT A REAL "WORLD" SERIES (despite the MLB having players from almost every continent, race, creed, and color)
