I couldn't stand it. I'm sure this will never happen again in my life. I've been here for nearly 5 years and this is a first. LOL

I hope this is your ribbon shot. You surely deserved one long ago.

I have to say I was pretty disappointed in most of the entries and probably won't vote. : ) Some of the images are lovely, but definitely don't fit a movie poster theme (aren't movie posters vertical???) and the titles...well don't even get me started on them!

All the more reason you should vote.

the sad thing is that we still get lots of under 5 votes and don't know why because they don't tell us. This is a good reason to either move to another site or do a good challenge site myself...

Edit to add: Ah and my entry is horizontal. Did not know vertical is required. If you vote me down because of the title or the orientation, please let me know!

Ever seen a movie poster on the side of a bus or in the advertising strip above the seats on a subway car? I have...

It's not required, just the usual orientation for movie posters. However, there are various placards, newspaper ads, and other forms of movie advertising that could be in landscape format.

Before I entered this challenge I looked at the results of the first Cinema challenge (that never seems to benefit me, though).

I would say that many of the top 20 (and a HUGE percentage of those after the top 20) were simply nice shots that were made to fit. I saw scores over 6.5 that I didn't think were very movie like at all. I therefore thought this challenge was more like a FS with a silly creative title.

Clearly I interpreted incorrectly.

It wasn't in the challenge description, only in my mind. When I go to a movie theater and see a movie poster, it's always vertical. Again, I'm not voting so no worries. : )

If the title didn't matter (and it does in this particular challenge) then we should not title any of our entries. You must be new around here because you should know we are anal about everything!!!

I will not be giving lower votes for the freestudy shots with a DPC title, as too many members have taken that approach and I would have an average vote of 3.1 if I called them all DNMC. I will however, be adding pointage for those entries that appear to have a title that sounds like a movie and an appropriate image to illustrate it.

I've voted with the challenge description in mind. A few of the pictures were just pictures - with a title added on - imo. I was glad to see a lot of people make huge effort to make their entries look like a movie poster - or a picture that could be on the backdrop of a movie poster.

However, this is all subjective, because strictly speaking ANYTHING could be a movie poster.... but on this occasion I do hope that the entries that do look like movie posters win, and the entries that yes - are great photos - but not intended to be 'movie poster' material don't take away their glory.

I'm not new. The only thing that mattered in the title was that "DPC" was in it. Here is the rule: "Create your own movie poster! The catch? Your film title must have the ini
tials "DPC"!" Now stop the madness!!

Some of these titles are one word!! IMHO, as long as you have DPC in your title you have met the challenge requirements. Imaginations people! use your imaginations and create a movie in your mind with the photo you see and title it was given, but don't forget to judge the shot on it's technical merit, creativity, and execution.

I hesitate putting this out here because I REALLY REALLY appreciate comments!! But I wanted to leave an example of what has me frustrated. Here's one of my comments: "great title matches the pic but not really a movie title...6"

I knew I should have stayed away from this site....I was warned. Ahh.. that feels better. No need to quote or reply to my message. I strictly did this for my benefit. Thanks

I have to say I'm doing a bit of title bashing myself... I normally don't do the DNMC comment thing and tend to just score the image as I like it; but in this challenge there is such potential for people to arbitrarily shoot what they want and then try to match three words in such a way that it could be construed by the generous as being a movie title. Granted, anything can be a movie, but for me the combination of the title and the image as a matched pair should at least capture something credible in the context as offered. I'll be 100% commenting on this one and I am about halfway through - I'm offering a 'movie-poster-ness' assessment on each image in addition to something about the photo itself if I can.

Although I don't think the comment cited above is one of mine.... mine are a little similar.

I know you didn't want a reply so apologies, but I felt I had better try to justify my comments before everybody gets one!

It is a good debate though

Thanks

Paul

What won then won't be the same now. The tides shift and turn around here. It's a crap shoot for sure. LOL

I always find it interesting to see all of the "conversation" in a threads score. The various camps that setup...usually with persuasive arguments for "their" POV on what should/should not fit the challenge, etc...

IMO these discussions are nothing other than trying to influence people to vote one way or the other.

Have you ever gone back thru a scores thread after the challenge is over and looked at what people entered in the challenge, and then reread the comments? I have, and it's an eyeopener at times. :-) Can't say that over the last 5 years or so here that I haven't made my own contributions. :-P
