Change is good. It looks nice and modernly progressive. I may end up putting that blue shirt back on even before the size allowance poll is finished!

Yes...change is good. Thinking again i like the descriptions but the font looks too small for me. Mainly on the dates.

It would be easier to list specifically what isn't liked without a comparison. All I can say is that it is uncomfortable to look at. Nothing stands out like it did before. Perhaps its just getting used to it, but what is currently there looks more like what the old style evolved from.

After my initial confusion and checking my settings as well as for an admin thread announcing the change and not finding one...I stumbled finally across this thread. At first I was not liking it too much. Aesthetics - as others have said it doesn't fit the rest of the page format. However, after looking at it for its functionality and use, I like it. I can see there may be a reason for the change from the server side of things - fewer page loads overall if you can get the challenge info from the front page if you want it. Don't see the same advantage on the voting side though.

Like all change it will take some getting used to. But the way I figure it I am either cruising the forums in which the top half is irrelevant or I am entering or voting in which the bottom half is irrelevant. So overall I like it and find it more convenient to get information with less pages to flip through.

I can also see an advantage with the info available on the front page like this - more people may be tempted to read the WHOLE challenge description which at times does not appear to happen for some reason.

Oh I think it's cool. I just noticed. I don't usually scroll all the way down the page - I missed it. LOL

Must be the beer, again. On my Mac it looks pretty fine. Overall I like it, easier to read and descriptions where you can't overloook them.

I like it...have to get used to it, though..no biggie...

I agree that it will take a little getting used to, but one nice thing is that more people will be likely to see the challenge description this way. I also like that you can see the number of images left to rate in a challenge. The only problem for me, is that the way it's formatted it makes it a little hard for my eye to follow. Maybe putting a dark box outline around each challenge title and description would help?

I personally didnt think there was anything wrong with the old one.. its different, but in a week or so it will be the norm.. just like 800 pixel images! yeah!

HOLY SHIZ! I HATE THE NEW HOME PAGE!

THAT'S IT! I QUIT DPC !

To give some constructive criticism, it would look better with more pie. I like pie.

BUT I STILL QUIT DPC. THIS PLACE HAS GONE TO HELL IN A HANDBASKET.

This is my last post ever.

Good bye.

You're reminding me of the little boy who cried wolf. So much for your empty threats. Don't let the door hit you in the ass. We'll miss you but not everything about you. :)

Okay, seriously ... breath into a paper bag, pop a few Prozac, and get a grip.

Tough! Until the home page features pie, and lots of pie, I QUIT.

This is really my last post forever.

With the spacing as such it would nice if there was a faint box surrounding each challenge section/paragraph. Each section, even though is separately spaced blends in too much into one another, and looks like one big block at first.

One nice thing about it I just noticed (I'm a little slow on the uptake): In the "Challenges Needing Your Votes" column, it tells me "begin voting", "finish voting", and "thank you for voting", which is a nice set of reminders. Even shows me what % I have voted thus far...

But it's just jarringly ugly, it looks like an afterthought in the middle of the page. There has to be a way to integrate this into the overall aesthetic of the page, surely?

That's what I was trying to say earlier, but I couldn't. Thank you for being more articulate than me. :-)

I agree. I think that it looks fine, but it's kind of hard to tell each challenge from each other. Ether way it just will take some getting used to.

maybe it wouldn't seem that the challenges blend together if the HR ( horizontal rule ) was moved to the bottom of each challenges info - instead of in the middle of it.

This thread is funny.

Complaints surface on occasion that DPC doesn't update often enough - yet when Langdon does make a change, everyone's like "HEY - Why'd you change it?!"

Personally, the prior homepage worked fine for me, but the new one is ok too. I like seeing the % vote completed.

you haven't realized after all these years that DPC is THE place to vent any and all of your complaints ?

:)

You make a somewhat valid point in stating "you cant please the masses". On the other hand, the update appears nothing more than a logistical fix with little effort to "modernize" the appearance, which is antiquated. For one, the page does not flow in geometry, it simply looks clunky. Is this the first step toward other enhancements of is this the "update" we've all been waiting for? It looks as if someone pressed the collar of an old shirt and suggesting the shirt is new.

In your ever so humble opinion, of course.......8>)

I am getting used to the new stuff. Unlike some, I find the new font cleaner and easier to read. I also agree that the challenge section needs something to seperate the challenges, a box would work quite well and look good too.

Just my opinion:)

One thing that that I question is that as a registered user, why do I get "begin voting" links on challenges that I can't vote on ?
Having the "enter challenge" link for member challenges is OK because it becomes a selling point for membership.
10/17/2009 03:04:50 PM · #73
have you tried voting on member challenges before ? :)

I like the idea - but feel it is currently a little discordant - which is an irony really.

As we all follow a very visual hobby you would think that the front page of the website would naturally be a visual delight :- )

I know that there is a fair degree of info that needs to be put across - but (for instance) I think the front page of One Exposure is much more visually eye catching, and enticing.

Maybe we should have a 'Design the Front Page' side challenge :-)
