BUT I STILL QUIT DPC. THIS PLACE HAS GONE TO HELL IN A HANDBASKET.

This is my last post ever.

Good bye.

You're reminding me of the little boy who cried wolf. So much for your empty threats. Don't let the door hit you in the ass. We'll miss you but not everything about you. :)

Okay, seriously ... breath into a paper bag, pop a few Prozac, and get a grip.

I like it, especially the extra info. Problem is, the new clean look suddenly makes the rest of the site look dated, perhaps change the whole site to match the new bit :)

I like that idea.

I love the new design....just not the way it looks.
I love how streamlined it has become, with easier access to info/details.

I would have to agree that the asthetics don't flow with the rest of the page.

If you were to box in the sections "Challenges Open for Submission" and "Challenges Needing Your Votes" the same way "Support DPChallenge" or "Site News" boxes are, it would match a bit better.

About 20% of the home page is wasted with a column with usually out-dated garbage that could be contained on a single line or two, with clickables to get you to the information.

As do I. If the solid grey headers could be replaced with a similarly bright and open aesthetics without having sacrifice their purpose, we'd have a beautiful front page.

You might be right about that.

I like that it tells me if I have voted on a challenge or not.

ETA: I would like it even better if it told me what challenge awaiting submissions I have already submitted to.

I'm liking it! I love that the descriptions for the challenges are available on the home page.

It's bunched up a bit but ok, Free Study appears to be one of the choices for the Open challenges, but other than that, theres nothing to like or hate about the simple cosmetic upgrades.

I don't like it either. It is hard to read...the older style was to the point. Although I do like the fact that the challenge description is partly on the front page. It would be better if all the challenge description was on the front page. Hopefully that would counteract the voters who don't bother to read the challenge description!

Very bad font choice--for those of use with lousy eyes, it is very hard too read. It is a wide font, or it's kerned out too much, but I had to back up to be able to focus on it.

I also agree having part of the description is a good idea, because a couple of times I guessed what it was from the title and forgot to read the description.

blech to the font!!!

I'm right with you on this... the clean look is fine to me.. I never looked at what was on the front page before and OH MY, I can't remember.. LOL.. I would always just scroll down to the forums and see who was discussing what.. Then I would have to click on the challenges page to see what was goin on there.. Now, it's all in one place with ALL of the info "I'm" looking for, so for me, it's a great change..

OK, that's really bazarre.. the font used looks like the exact same font on the rest of the entire site.. am I seeing something different.. I do see that a portion is a bit smaller, but none of it appears kerned out.. Only smaller on one line, then larger on the other.. Geez, my eyes must really be bad.

ugh. looks bad.
10/16/2009 10:21:06 PM · #43
I though it was a problem too. It's really ugly! I prefer the old style.
10/16/2009 10:28:02 PM · #44
For a creative photography site, it appears utilitarian and offers little enhancement other than possible functionality.
10/16/2009 10:39:58 PM · #45
I like it. (This time I will remember to post it).
10/16/2009 10:50:56 PM · #46
As with most changes it will take some time to get accustomed to. I like the functionality but agree with the font issue...

Now that I look at it again, it's awesomely amazing. It's like sliced bread rolled up in a sham-wow with just a hint of real maple syrup.

Change is good. It looks nice and modernly progressive. I may end up putting that blue shirt back on even before the size allowance poll is finished!

I like that the challenge descriptions are viewable right on the main screen. It does look a bit different, but the functionality is definitely an improvement.

Love: Descriptions being right up front so people will actually read them

Don't Love: The font looks like its from an 80s dot matrix printer.

Overall, I give it a 5.5 :D
