I am going to be in Sydney and would like some advice on Hotels, Looking for something central so I can walk around with my camera. A aiport shuttle service would also be a plus. Doesn't have to be a fancy hotel, But I do not want to stay at a Backpacker type place. So anything in the middle would probably work. Close the Harbor is what I have in mind. Or at least in short walking distance. |

There's a shuttle train service - directly from the airport to central. They run regularly.
Depending on the hotel - they often have their own transport (shuttle bus) from the airport. Check on the internet - I have stayed in a few - but can't remember prices.
There is a good one at the top end of China Town (only 2 blocks from central) - close to the harbour and China Town. |

Sydney is full of hotels, but the closer you get to the harbor the more expensive they will get. I would also recommend staying around the top end of Chinatown.
World Tower is a nice building, I used to live there and I believe they have some serviced rooms for short term stay as well. It's not far from Central station and you should get some good views, no idea what the prices would be like though.
On the same block you have the Rydges Hotel, which I think is more of a Hotel than a short stay apartment lease. Will probably cost you more though.
A bit further up the city you have the Hilton, which is near the shopping area and fairly mid-city. Other than that you have a few hotels around Darling Harbor or the Sydney Harbor (you'll find those on google no problem), both areas will probably be quite pricey though.
It's not a huge city by any means, so anything you find within the 2000 postcode will place you close to everything. |

Just had a quick look - the airport shuttle bus will generally drop at the door of any of the selected hotels.
There is the "Aspire"hotel - a couple of blocks from darling harbour and china town (basically opposite the powerhouse museum. It's about $120 a night. |

thanks everyone. I am heading there in about 7 hours, spending all day Saturday in Sydney then flying back to New Zealand on Sunday morning. Decided that I am going to pass on getting a hotel room, I will spend most of my time hanging around the harbor and Chinatown, The hang out at the airport for a few hours before my return flight takes off. Save some money this way, Well actually allows me to increase my fun money budget. |
