Meh... I'm never buying a DX lens again. Why limit myself to DX cameras?

That's a sorta weird decision.... it's slower and less versatile than the 60mm 2.8 and costs significantly more than the AF version and exactly the same as the AF-S.
I just don't see a strong argument to get it over the other options... if you want more reach you'd get the 105 anyway. Hmmmmm.

It's cheap for the masses?
I use a few older Ai's and love them, but they were made before digital was ever thought about.

It's not cheap though. It's only 25mm longer than the 60, costs the EXACT SAME for AFS, significantly more compared to the "budget" AF version, and is slower!

I just don't get it.

This new glass has VR, while the 60mm 2.8 does not.

Still, I agree with you that it's a bit of an odd release.

I guess that they figure that the VR will compensate for the small aperture. It can't beat a faster lens for shooting shallow DOF though.
