Hi,

I have had my 400D for a few months and recently have been having a problem with the aperture or shutter stopping down, I'm not quite sure.

So, if I take pictures with the aperture at f4.0 I have no problems no matter what the shutter speed.
However if i set the aperture at anything higher that f5.0 then i get an error and have to switch off/on to use again.
So thats on manual mode, and its the same on other modes if the aperture is above f5.0 i get an error.

And, sometimes when I switch back on after the error the viewfinder is dim and focussing doesn't work either.

I am confused, any help would be much appreciated,

Thanks

Have you tried checking and/or cleaning the contacts between your lens and the body?

I agree. If you have access to more than one lens, try another lens to isolate the problem to either the camera or the lens. You may also try taking the lens off the camera and putting it back on, making sure that it locks into place. While it is off, have a look at the contacts to see if they look right.
Welcome to DPC.
ETA, It may be a computer glitch in the camera. Look in the manual, and try a full reset. That fixed one of my Fuji's recently.

Thanks for the replies,

I took the lens off and cleaned the contacts about a month ago and it didn't solve the problem,
I only have access to one lens so I will try a full reset and hope that will work.

Cheers
