Does anyone here know when Canon last updated the 70-200 2.8L IS? Wasn't there an improvement on the IS??? What year was that?

It's been a while... Rumors point to a new version (mark II) to be released with the new 1D, in Q1 2010.

From what I gather. the 70-200 f2.8L IS USM has gone through three "generations" of IS.

1st generation: Original IS (which seemed to have less sharpness than the non-IS version)

2nd generation: Better IS (eliminated the need to turn off IS when mounted on a tripod; sharpness equals the non-IS version)

3rd generation: Improved IS (added another stop of stability [from 3 stops to 4 stops])

.
