Okay.....so I've been tweaking for about a week and a half now because I couldn't post any of these up 'cause of my Free Study entry:
I knew this shot was pretty decent from the moment I looked at it on the back of the camera. I turned in my best FS showing ever (Best placement, second highest FS score for me.), and I am having it framed as we speak.....the print size itself is 18x24 and it looks FABULOUS!!!!
So anyway, having become friends with the wonderful folks who own the Middletown & Hummelstown Railroad, they asked me if I would be their official photographer for their "Civil War Remembered" reenactment.
Uh, yeah......I think I might wanna do that.....
So what I was stuck with doing ALL day Saturday was riding IN the steam engine, getting off anytime, anywhere, we stopped and with not only the freedom to wander around everywhere and take shots of whatever I wanted, but with direction to PLEASE do so!
Uh, yeah......I think I can handle that.....
So....this is #91, a 2-6-0 Mogul, coal-fired 1910 steam locomotive. (Sounds like I know what the heck I'm talking about, huh? I learned this and it's EVERYTHING I know about steam engines...LOL!!!) Shots of this beautiful machine....

It's not every day or everybody that gets to ride in the locomotive itself....I was blown away at how much they went out of their way to ensure I had every opportunity to record the event.
So I moved on down into the encampment. These folks are dead serious about this stuff.....this was here in central pennsylvania, and people came from all over the eastern seaboard: North & South Carolina, Virginia, Tenneesee, Maryland, New York, Maryland, Connecticut, Ohio, and of course, Pennsylvania.
This was my first shot of the day and I could see that this was going to be an awesome time, as these folks really looked like they all pretty much just stepped out of 1863.
Don is a Captain in the Union Army, and is the commanding officer in his unit. I could tell from this very first shot that I was in for a treat as a photographer with this kind of subject material.
These are some shots from the camp before the "battle" began.

Again & again, the incredible authenticity of this event just blew me away.
The soldiers & their leaders.....the officers were just amazing, and the man who was General Lee was without question one of the most genuinely nice men I have ever met.

Can't have a battle without cannons, right?

Last but not least.....this'd be Lt. Col. Ken Snyder, commanding officer of the 22nd North Caroline Infantry. He's a character, a silver-tongued devil, and an all 'round great guy.
He'll be my commanding officer the weekend of the 16th-18th of October at the 145th anniversary of the Battle of Cedar Creek, in Northern Virginia. He has conscripted me into the Confederate Army for the weekend. With a name like Jeb, I could hardly be a Yankee, could I? Did I mention that my daughter, Eleanor is going to be a drummer in the battle?......8>)
I have to tell you guys.....never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that these incredible opportunities would happen not only that I may document them, but that I end up being an integral part of the events and lives of the people involved.
I came here a little over three years ago, not particularly adept at photography with a desire and a halfway decent eye. You people have taught, cajoled, encouraged, cheered, enjoyed, and gotten together with me to develop a pretty fair photographer who as well as being able to take a decent shot here and there, have helped me to see how to open doors and become a part of whatever it is that I encounter. A camera can be key to adventures and life experiences that through the lens can be captured and treasured forever, as well as enriching the life of the photographer beyond imagination.
To borrow a phrase from one of my dear friends here, "Life is Good"!

Well, you're on the right side LOL.
Congrats on taking part in a wonderful event honoring our ancestors.
You are right about your camera opening a lot of doors of opportunity, and you do a fine job of capturing the people and historic things that you see around you.
It not only enriches your life, as you said, but it enriches the lives of those who you share your photos with.
So, do you know if you have Civil War veterans in your family history?

Hey I definately liked the pics......Need more "confederate pics". I have been to re-enactments in Vicksburg, MS. Ya know Vivsburg did not celebrate independance day (july 4) until the mid 1980's. The govmt finally told them that they would celebrate the holiday...Just thought I would share.

I plan on going to the next civil war re-enactment. I have never been to one with a camera. The last 1 I went to was before I really got into photography
