OH MY FRAGILE SENSITIVITIES! :-O

I will now make myself feel superior by demonstrating how much holier than thou I am by calling you an insensitive racist. I hope you're proud of yourself for hurting the feelings of all of the Hindus here, or whoever the heck it is that's into Buddah worship, not to mention all the fat bastards.

..............................................mah...just ain't workin', you'll have to try a lot harder to offend this Fat B*st*rd! :-)

OK, well this is great!!

Exactly what the experiment was supposed to demonstrate - I completely offended a religion, be it in jest or malice, and no one popped in to complain. Is this because

a/ we have been conditioned to be wary of offended Jews or Muslims.
b/ jews/muslims have no sense of humor
c/ its ok to offend the marginal religions such as buddihism, christianity etc.
d/ something else.

interesting eh?

Buddha IS actually one of the Hindu deities, but being as they have regional deities as well as the *main* ones, by one estimate there are 330 million Hindu deities. Some of the better-known that come to mind are

Brahma (the Creator)
Vishnu (the Protector)
Shiva (the Powerful God)

Not to mention Rama, Krishna, and a slew of others :-)

You gotta give it time. All the Hindus and Budddhists are on the other side of the world contemplating their navels or navigating around cows or whatever else it is they do, and they haven't seen this post...

Patience, grasshopper! I'm doing my best in this post to offend also, though my best isn't very good as I'm basically not offensive...

They believe in site-specific gods, apparently :-) From Wiki:

"This is a list of Hindu deities. Note that according to some Hindu literature, there are 330 million (including local and regional) deities,[1][2] not all of which can be listed."

I don't think it's "b". Three of the four Muslims (I think that was the count) found my ham thread amusing. And I think the fourth was, at least, not offended. I think the "holier-than-thou" crowd just hasn't made its appearance in this thread yet.

I find that many Christians, or whatever it is that's the most popular religion in the US Bible belt, are pretty militant, and spend a lot of time looking for ways to become offended, whether it has anything to do with Christianity or not. Just the way their parents wired them.

Just noticed Simms has offended the Christians by calling their religion "marginal"...

Let the flaming begin!

I would actually argue the opposite, they trawl the rants forums looking for ways to be offended and looking for an excuse to spout their usual rhetoric.

You should pop over here to Ireland and try it. Any day now they are going to put into force the new Blasphemy Law as part of the Defamation Act. Apparently it's now possible to defame a deity.

//www.blasphemy.ie

Unbelievable.

Reminds me of the one I heard.....

A man walks into a bar....sits down, orders a shot straight up, and announces "All lawyers are F*CKING ASSH*LES!!!!".

Guy down at the end of the bar says,"Hey! I resent that!".

First guy says....."What're ya, a lawyer?"

"No, I'm a f*cking assh*le!.

There's nothing new about it. "Blasphemy" is prohibited by the Irish constitution. The Irish courts have stricken the draconian anti-defamation laws of more recent vintage, and in so doing they have arguably acted unconstitutionally. Thus, the "new" anti-blasphemy law seeks to plug that loophole, putatively perforce of necessity. The other option would be to change the constitution, a more costly and difficult procedure. Note that since the incorporation of the anti-blasphemy wording into the constitution (I think in the 1920s?) there has only been ONE incident of prosecution under that clause, and it failed.

So it's not what it seems...
