Wow! Exciting. Thank you Carlo21 for your support by purchasing my membership for my birthday as well as convincing me to join this site. What a great brother in law! I was hesitant in joining DPchallenge being that I own an old Sony P&S and a new Canon G10. Thanks again and I'm happy to be a member of DPchallenge!!! Can't wait to submit my first photo but scared as well. What score will I receive?

Welcome! Keep an open mind, and you can learn a lot from this site. A good goal for your first photo might be anything over 5.0000. Good luck!

Welcome to DPC. Please don't get discouraged by bad comments or low voters on this website. Just take it day to day and you will be just fine. I am looking forward to seeing some pics in upcoming challenges. Welcome and good luck!!!

Welcome! DPC is a great place to learn. Never hesitate to ask. The worst thing that'll happen is you'll get a couple smartass comments before the real answer, but they're usually entertaining so it's worth it. Also, just remember the comments are honest and just made to help, not to single you out. Hope to see you in some challenges soon.

Welcome!! How lucky you are. Carlo21 completely ignored my birthday :P

Luckily, your first score doesn't particularly matter. It's actually good to score low on your first challenge, because then it's easy to improve on the next one!

Ooooh, a G10! Always wanted one...

Welcome to the site! I'd suggest the following to start:
-This one's for me. Add your "old Sony P&S" to your cameras, I'm dying to know what it is.
-Vote on an open challenge. You need to vote on 20% of the images for your vote to count. You'll learn what makes a great image and you'll look with a bit more of a critical point of view by forcing yourself to give a full range of scores. You'll see flaws you never saw before, and next time you go out to take some pictures, you'll know to avoid them. And you'll be contributing to the site!
-Join a Side Challenge. You'll learn a lot, without the stress! And most people submit an image a day to that, so it should keep you shootin' if you wanna keep up. Also, you'll get some comments on how to improve.
-Join a "real" challenge when you're ready.

don't be so quick to downplay point and shoot cameras, look at the work this guy does with p&s cameras.

oh and welcome! :D

Howdy!
I love my point n' shoot cam, so you can't use that old excuse LOL : )

Ditto what george917 said.

When you open the "Post Reply" box, there is a row of icons at the top that do different things like add a hyperlink, or post thumbnail shots from your portfolio. Since you are a member now, you can start a portfolio any time. Keep the images to about 640 pixels in size, and you will have room for about 1,000 in your portfolio.
Have a nice time here learning and sharing.
This is a good site for friends and photos.

Welcome. That G-10 you have is better then a good portion of the other cameras here on DPC. in fact it is better then at least a 3rd of the DSLR's here, Best advice is to read all the rule sets and have a good understanding of them before you enter a shot, Don't worry about the scores until after a few challenges. Just have fun and learn as you go.
