| OK first, call me an idiot. I won't mind really. Most of my knowledge is scabbed together in five second intervals on the web while playing tea party with my six year old. I haven't been much into taking any sort of photos in the p0ast couple years or so, until lately when I totally revamped my file sorting system and thought, ah, I'll give it one more go. SO I have been ever so briefly gathering information. My camera is essentially out of the box from lets say four years ago. I've added a lens, a remote, a couple new batteries. But I've never heard of a firmware upgrade or hack. My body which you can see in my profile is a 300d (yeah it kinda does refer to how much I weigh lolol). Can anyone point me to some "fast" firmware upgrade information or reccommend a good hack to me? Would it even be a benefit to me? Thanks in advance. |

People generally only update the firmware if they notice issues with the photo quality. However, many firmware updates also offer additional features, improved performance, or better image quality.
On most cameras updating the firmware involves downloading some files to a memory card using your PC, then putting the card into the camera and pressing some combination of buttons during power-up to make it read the firmware.

Proceed with caution - if something goes wrong with a firmware update, you can brick the camera.

I could not locate any firmware on Canon Canada's site, but here is the page on their US site that has it for download.
Really not much in the way of fixes for the available upgrade.
EOS Digital Rebel Firmware Version 1.1.1 resolves the following issues:
1. It increases the reliability of RemoteCapture application when the camera is used.
2. It increases the reliability of operations when used on Windows XP and Mac OS X with [PTP] selected in [Communication].
Really no need to mess with it unless it fixes a problem you have been having.
Now digital copiers on the other hand, get firmware updates so frequently, it makes my head spin, and the version numbers are done in a cryptic semi-hexadecimal. (I'm the one responsible for keeping our tech support site up to date with firmware & drivers.)

*Make sure your battery is fully charged.* If it fails then you brick the camera. |
