between my buddy who works for the phils and my other friend who is a local sports caster, i'm hoping i might be able to weasel my way into at least a few playoff games. the best is helping my friend cover flyers games. i get to hold the mic up to the player's mouths in the locker room during the interviews ;)

i disagree. i love how fast paced the game is and the low scoring keeps it exciting. basketball is a sport i have no desire to watch because it is by far the most boring game ever until the last 2 minutes.

I hate the last 2 minutes of basketball, as it lasts 20 minutes with the fouling and all that. I hate that hockey games are often decided by a shoot out. Why don't we just have the shoot out at the beginning and save a few hours?

the thing is, whether you mean to or not, if you see a picture and you think you know who it belongs to then you automatically vote higher than if you didn't know who the picture belongs to..

personally, i can't stand certain people on this site because they always win with the same old boring images of paper and water drops but if that is what people want to vote high for then so be it, the OP should not have chosen to bash one particular person because this happens with a lot of people because you do recognize their face, or their kids, or their style

Do you vote higher on the "same old boring images" if you recognize the photographer?

And some people vote lower and that's why these variances ALONE do not constitute "buddy voting".

I disagree with this completely - people vote certain images higher because they either think that image is better composed, better shot, better processed, or fits the challenge better. If it be water drops or paper rolled up, it just may be that it fits the challenge better, or it is a better shot.

It would be nice if we could do some kind of experiment on this theory.

The only problem is that the "subjects" would be from DPC. Once they know what the "hyopthesis" (sp?)or "test" is then you would have to throw out the results.

Can anyone devise such a test and administer in such a way that it would result in accurate measure?

I think there are some people that can't separate name from photo. Some people think all of Annie Leibovitz's stuff is wonderful. I like some, I see no point in others. Just because it's Ansel Adams, doesn't mean that all of it's good. Some is spectacular, some I could take or leave. If I don't get that excited over Ansel Adams, I doubt that I'm going to get over-awed because it looks like Andrewt's photo. (Sorry Andrew! Still love ya' though!)

Wow, you just registered 2 months ago and you already hate certain people because they "always" win. Shame.

even if you vote lower bias does come. The point is to vote without any bias. Isn't it.
