I will be traveling soon and I will be in the need of a good tripod. Can someone recomend a good tripod that will fit my Canon 5d MK2?
Thanks

| Manfrotto is my preference. Lots of choices for legs and heads. |

I the Gitzo 1541T - the Traveler version where the legs fold 180 degrees aound the center column. It is carbon fiber. If you aren't using long/heavy lenses the thing is a tank and weights next to nothing.
Unfortunately, It carries the additional weight saving feature of making your wallet considerably lighter as well. |

i use these legs and this head. a little heavy, but not unreasonable. has no problem with my 40D and the 400mm f/5.6 L attached.
i switched the head around for left handed operation so i can follow surfers and birds, etc, while taking shots with my right hand.
not too expensive, but heavier than a carbon fiber one would be :) |

| I just recently asked the same question....here is the thread that I had started...Thread I still haven't gotten anything...but when I was in the Canyons I realized the I really wanted a tri-pod that the legs went in various different directions, it was extremely handy to be able to use the walls and the varying rock heights to work with...so that is what my next purchase will be...this is the one that I will probably end up with...Manfrotto 055XPROB tripod. good luck Jaime |

I use the Manfrotto 055XPROB tripod with the 488RC2 panoramic ball head. The tripod has a removable center column that doubles as a horizontal lateral arm. Not only does this allow the camera to be offset from leg position, but it provides the simplest way possible to shoot from directly overhead.
If you look around, you can get these two for a lot less than what is often advertised.
If that tripod is too tall for you, try the Manfrotto 190XPROB.
Here is a review of both of them.
