So...You have a cute little compact camera to throw in the camera bag, leave in the car or just carry around when you don't want to lug the whole kit with you. But you don't want it to get dusty, scratched or damage that lovely 3" LCD screen... oh, and it could use a little water protection too, right?
While looking around at the little bags meant to carry compact cameras, each seemed to have the same problem... they're too big. They are meant to carry the camera, some batteries, extra memory, your cell phone, your wallet, some hamburgers, and a 64oz soda. Far more "case" than I'd wanna throw in my purse.
Today, the perfect solution hit me. Its $0.59. Yup, FIFTY-NINE CENTS! And here is my awesome find:
Its a travel soap container. I like how the lid is hinged so can't be lost. I also like that the grooves on the bottom keep any pressure from the LCD screen. And it fits so perfectly you'd swear the box was made for a compact camera.
If you have a smaller camera, you could add a little padding around the sides for a custom-fit. You can even add a carrying strap if you like.
I picked mine up at the grocery store, but you can also find them at drug stores and superstores. I think I'll sass it up a bit with some stickers or sharpie marker drawings. :D

Now, what on earth can I use to carry my travel soap in?
;-)
You know what you should do. Buy up a load of them and sell them on ebay for $14.99 as 'Deluxe Compact Camera Case' |

you know what i do, i take bath from that soap before i start from home. This way i have empty soapbox and it saves time during travel since i do not have to take bath.
Another good thing i found is, people make way for you wherever you go (it usually happens after three weeks though). Its good to be only person standing in queue. :-D |

We had a soap holder here and his camera fits in there so he is going to use it. I would like to see the pictures too, But knowing him. They will live in his camera for a year or two before he ever gets around to processing them. Kind of a slacker to say the least. lol

Don't get the camera confused with your travel soap. The soap doesn't take very good pictures and the camera doesn't lather. |

I just bought a couple of small bags (LowePro with the All Weather cover) in the Used dept at B&H. They're condition 10 (brand new basically).
D-Res 30AW - $5.95
D-Res 220AW - $9.95
They have numerous other smaller styles also (like the soap box size). Just an option to consider. :-) |

Gotta say, I took my marvel invention/find to the beach today and LOVED it. No sand, no salt water, not worries. Camera stayed perfectly pristine. I pulled it out for some awesome shots and dropped it back into its "custom compact camera case" when I was ready to go for a swim. Yeah for thrifty finds. :)
BTW - I'm dreadfully behind on the compact camera challenge for September, but know I have continued shooting, just got busy with client work and havent had time to load and process. I'll try to catch up tomorrow.

I needed a compact camera to take with me when we go out and about. I picked up the Canon D10. Waterproof, dustproof, freezeproof, shockproof. It's not the smallest, but Olympus and Pentax make more compact ones.
So far so good, it's been underwater several times, and has a few battle scars from taking a tumble down the sidewalk and falling off of a 4-wheeler into the mud. This winter, I'm sure I'll put the freezeproof claim to the test. |

Good idea Cindi. I like to use the smallest belt pouch that I can find. Wally world used to sell one that was just right, but as things seem to go for me, as soon as I find something that works great for me, it gets discontinued and is no longer available. I wore out a couple of them before they stopped selling them.
I am also behind on the P&S challenge shooting.
