Looking at the three ribboners in the Lines III I'm wondering if Topaz is going to become a pre-requisite to winning it does seem to do wonderfull stuff to what are already wonderfull pictures.

Such gorgeous pictures and I'm getting a migraine deciding which one I like the most ... tending towards Gram but I keep returning to the steel worm.

I do not have Topaz - all my editing was done primarily in Aperture... I does look like a pretty powerful program though.

I kinda thought it might not have been, does look a little topazy ... I wonder what it would look like if it was topazed?

I'm trying out trial programs before deciding if and what to buy. I quite like what I've seen of this one so far. I also discovered an old trial of Photomatix on my computer (I don't remember when I downloaded it) - if I'm using it right the results don't look that exciting, but it may be out of date. However I notice that the most mentioned tool seems to be Topaz. I just went to look at the site and was wondering whether it is a stand-alone program or only a plug-in. I'm still using Photoshop Elements 3 so I don't want to download something that I won't be able to use. Any suggestions or recommendations would be much appreciated.

It is a plugin. I don't know if it is compatible with PSE 3 or not, but it does work with PSE7 and PaintShop Pro. Easy enough to try it and see, though. Topaz will give you key code for a 30 day trial of all their plugins.

I think the biggest reason it is so popular is not just because of what it does, but because it is priced right. Other plugins may actually be more refined, but at an average price of $30-50, most of their stuff is a good deal.

It's a plugin. But there is a list of programs it's compatible with here. Elements 1 - 7 is on the list.

Thanks Kelli and Yo_Spiff. I'll certainly give it a try then. It would certainly be more convenient to work with a plug-in and the price does look better than the others I've seen.
