Since it is Veggie Tales and not Fruits and Vegetables III, I think the intent was to show some sort of Veggie Tales scene where vegetables take on a role of being something other than vegetables.

Of course the description wasn't completely explicit in this, and there is room for interpretation.

Some people will vote strictly as they interpret challenge, and some people will vote for the pretty picture.

Me, I just vote 1 for every photo that isn't my own. ;)

That's pretty much the intent. Leaves more room for creativity, ya know.

Dang! I didn't read that in the description. I guess I need to go back and give all shots in landscape orientation a 1. Thanks Shannon for the tip.

Oh, I completely agree. The problem is when people think that their definition is the only definition. I like going into voting by taking everything into account, and then finding the definition/photo combination that I like the best. But there are some that are so literal, you feel like you can't do anything unusual or you're going to get slammed for it.

You mean like when somebody says: "I think there are a lot of people who didn't read the challenge description. I assumed that using only fruits and veggies meant that you shouldn't have non=fruits and veggies in the shot."

I was wondering if there's something that I'm misunderstanding, and wondering what people's take was. That's why I posted it, so that I understood different points of view. I don't assume that I'm correct--I look and ask. That's why there was also "Did I misinterpret it somehow?" in the same post.

It was because there were so many that I started questioning my interpretation. Also, when there are that many, I figure there must be another way of looking at it, and I don't let it affect my voting. I'm not going to start voting down things if a large number of people show that it can be interpreted many ways. I'm sorry if my post led you to believe that I would.

Don't worry about it. The general direction of the topic is usually more important than parsing every word. I go by the "mainstream" interpretation ΓΆ€” what I think most voters will expect to see ΓΆ€” and then try to find an interesting approach. I don't always get that right, but it's worked out pretty well so far. Most voters are more open minded than they get credit for, and the more literal thinkers do more harm to themselves by boxing in their own creativity than they do by handing out a few aberrant votes.

I saw one or two images with no veggies--just fruit. If yours is one of these, have you received any comments about having no veggies?

As we discussed in another thread, many folks won't read the detailed description (about fruit), therefore they will only think "veggie" and vote accordingly.

i didn't think people were going to take the word 'scene' so literal, i thought they just meant picture :p no wonder my picture is doing so awful.. : ( aw well

I don't know about others, but since scene can have many different meanings, I can't see voting a photo down if it doesn't tell a story.

It seems to me that this issue is controversial...

Why is it not a fruit?

Merriam-Webster: a product of fertilization in a plant with its modified envelopes or appendages; specifically : the ripened ovary of a seed plant and its contents
