Am doing some spring cleaning and thought I use lightroom as its about time I learnt how to use it. So, I imported about 7,000 backup images to my catelogue. I then started to deleted the duplicates and realy rubbish images and each time selected the delete from disk option as well as lightroom.
I was doing this as one of my backup drives was almost full however after deleting over 800 images my backup drive is still the same size. I read on the web I need to run lightroom as administrator to delete images outside LR - how would I do that?
Thanks in advance for any pointers :) |

When you delete from Lr you get a confirm box with the following choices:
Cancel - Deletes nothing
Remove - Takes the photo out of lightroom but leaves the original image on your drive
Delete From Disk - Gets rid of everything
Sounds like Delete from Disk is what you want. |

| I use LR2 and delete photos all the time from both disk and LR. I do run my machine as an administrator so that may be it but before you make that decision make sure that your catalog is created from your backup drive. If it is created from your working drive then the photos on the backup would be unaffected by the delete command and only the copy on your working drive would be deleted. |

Good call and thats what I select, the images are removed from Lightroom but not the originating folder. |

| JB is probably right, LR is linked to your main drive and not your backup. I would speculate that your backup software remove the images on your backup drive that LR deleted from your main drive when you run a sync between the two drives. |

One more note:
I have at times selected multiple photos and then "deleted" them but only one of the photos I selected was deleted. After researching this I found that "if more than one photo is selected in the Filmstrip in Loupe, Compare, or Survey view, only the active photo is deleted". That may also be what is happening. When you get it figured out let us know. |

| Guess this is a mute thread for a while, I exported my catalogue to a 4th drive only to find the catalogue and backup drive lost all their images. So, am currently rebuilding my backup from my 3rd drive images then will copy them to the 2 spare drives and start again. |
