Not as far as I can see, and I can't imagine why it would even be built... I think it's vaporware...

Does anybody thinks EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens will be better than EF-s 17-85?

Tamron also announced Tamron launches stabilized 17-50mm F2.8 zoom

I was looking to purchase this but nice to see I didn't rushed :)

EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM lens .... $1049

A waste of resources IMO. People will buy it tho just because it has a red ring painted around the end of it.

What about the new-tech, "hybrid" IS system? This is the first macro Canon has made with IS on board, and it should be fantastic for hand-held closeups. Disregard my earlier message regarding being unable to imagine why they'd introduce a new 100mm macro; IS is why. Plus it will be weather-sealed, I assume...

I'd be curious as to whether the gyro would help with in-and-out shift since that's pretty important for macro. It will be interesting. The stable image may be less useful if you still have trouble keeping that thin DOF in the right plane.

The choice might be hard between this lens at $1049 and the 180mm macro at about $1300. On one hand you have 1/3rd stop gain, IS (if it's useful), and about $250 versus basically increased working distance. I'm guessing sharpness will be similar between the two.

"Canon's newly developed Hybrid IS technology optimally compensates for angle and shift camera shake. Sudden changes in camera angle can significantly alter images taken during standard shooting, whereas shift-based shaking, which occurs when a camera moves parallel to the imaging scene, is more pronounced in macro photography and other close-range shooting.

Are there any reviews out there yet?

Yup, shift is a *big* concern with macro as compared to shooting at "normal" distances. Most of the time when I'm shooting hand-held macro, I'm shooting bugs in the wild, and I'm actually more concerned about subject motion than I am about shake, and IS won't really help me there.
I actually like the pricing of this lens, considering the IS I expected higher. I probably won't replace my current 100mm macro any time soon though.

This might be an example where the working distance of the 180 might be more beneficial than the IS of the 100.

Can't you carry a portable fridge with you to slow the bugs down? :)
