and he beats you for something we all occasionally do! Does he ever shoot something that is not quite in focus?

I'm sure Simms's camera is far too intimidated to even dare take an out of focus photo, lest it suffer the consequences.

Yeah, all examples point to that.

Might wait to see what the 1ds4 has in store for us.

Don't let the bark scare you, although (very) opinionated I am actually quite a nice fella.

the 1Ds is still has better weather sealing and I think it has a faster frame rate. From Canon's standpoint, the 1D series is still they're "pro" line. But from an image quality standpoint, it is hard to argue the price difference.

Or maybe the "1Ds Mark IV" ;-)

Oh there are a whole heap of differences, full weather sealing (and fully sealed with 580 ex mk2 attached), better build quality, twin card slots, longer battery life, more MP, better focusing (more cross type points), marginally faster FPS, built in grip, but yep, hard to justify the extra £££s for those.

The 5DMkII and the 1Ds Mk3 are both 21MP but the 5DMkII has a newer chip to boot.

I would probably argue the battery life as well, especially if you put a grip on the 5DMkII with 2 Canon batteries in it, you'de be looking at around 2000 shots out of that!

I would say the main advantage would be the AF, twin card slots, and weather sealing.

You could get two 5D MkII's for the price of a 1Ds MkIII so I would argue that they would last as long an one 1DsMk3 :0)

OR..... you could get a 5D Mk2, 85mm f/1.2L, and a 35mm f1.4L all for the same price as a 1Ds Mk3 (or Mk4 when that comes out)

Is that true or are you toying with my emotions?

As tempting as the latter might be... noted here and here.

the current products of the rumour mill include:

a new 70-200 2.8 IS
a new 100 2.8 macro (meant to have IS)
some kind of 7d or something to match the D300s or so I read

Last time it was a 'big announcement' and everybody was speculating wildly, it turned out to be a new compact :)

But, time shall tell!

Simms I'd not be so worried about the noise levels as much as I would the AF system. I have shot with the 1D series throughout all of them, and also shot with a 5D and 5DMKII and IMHO there is no comparison between them. If money wasn't an issue I'd buy the 1 series camera in a heartbeat over a 5DMKII. Although since you are currently shooting with one of each you should know the difference. Noise between the two is a non-issue as far as I could tell.
