I sold my 50d to someone in WA and this person right off the bat wanted to refuse shipment because they decided to buy elsewhere. When I told them they would have to pay for shipping both ways, then they decided to say the camera is defective and lodged a complaint at Amazon.

They attached a video showing the "defect". It is of the review image with the blown highlights flashing white and black.

Not having the manual any more, how do I explain this is normal and how do I direct them to turn it off - or better yet, return the camera to its default settings?

God, some people are so inpatient and difficult to deal with. I'm sorry that you accidently sent your camera to a neanderthal...

Actually, I did a quick search, I think it is on pg 133... They call it highlight alert.

eta: the setting is on playback menu 2, the 2nd blue menu.

Thanks so much! I found an online manual I can refer to.

I did not realize how hard it is to deal with someone who does not know at least a little about Canons.

I sent a reply directing them to that page but I fear they will have no idea even how to do that simple task! So I also suggested they return the camera to its default settings (something I should have done! my bad)

Note that the highlight alert setting may be enabled by default, so returning the camera to factory settings (or buying a new one) might not change anything.

The thing of it is, I suspect the "buyer" (who already got one elsewhere, remember) is actually the one who turned the highlight alert ON, in order to have something to complain about and make a video of, counting on the fact that whoever adjudicates these claims won't know enough about Canons to realize it's a bogus claim...
